God I've had some shite

Thinking back about passing my test has made me realise how much shite I've owned over the years, the list, as far as I can remember, is as follows;

1977 R Colt Celeste GSR in JRB bought for £150 and blown up 3 hours later, sold on for £75

1977 R Ford Crappi 1.6 GT XL in black with Weller chrome 8 spokes. Bought with terminal rust but short MOT for £100, sold for the same when MOT ran out.

1980 V Ford Concertina 1.6L in Midnight Blue. Dad bought this for me as he'd had enough of my shite buying, lasted 3 months until I snapped the cam in half...

1977 R Rover SD1 3.5 in white. Ex Met. Police and went like shit off a stick. Bought for £300 (IIRC) and traded in for the following.

1987 E Vauxhall Cavalier SRi130 in black. Bough on HP, got stolen after 8 months, never seen again

1980 V Vauxhall Carlton 2.0GL Auto in metallic blue. Bought for £200 when Cav stolen, top speed of 80 down hill with wind behind it, swapped for...

1980 V Mini Clubman 1100 in white, great car until I managed to reverse it down a ditch doing LOTS of damage, scrapped.

1980 V Cortina 2.0 GL, again in midnight blue, can't remember how much paid but sold to a mate for £50 (and the car below) when I borked the cam on that one too.

1979 V Carina 1.6 in metallic blue. Great car, but made of more gob than metal.

1977 S Escort 1.3 estate, in blue (what is it with blue cars?) sold when a 'mate' over filled it with oil and it hydrauliced(sp)

1980 W Lada 1600ES, got what a machine, in metallic orange with thru flow front wings. Traded in for...

1985 C Lada Riva 1.5GLS in brown, memories of this include 2 2 tone dashboard illumination and setting fire to the exhaust one night on the A13. Traded in for

1987 E Sierra 1.6 L, in magenta, owned for 8 months but failed 1st MOT on corrosion (Battery tray). Got rid of sharpish.

1985 B Audi Coupe GT5E, in metallic green, bought for £500 but sold 6 months later when the drivers door fell off in Tescos (bodged accident repair)

1985 B Rover SD1 2600SE, in Black, looked the dogs bollocks, drove like a dogs dinner. Part exed it for....

1992 J Ford Sierra 1.8 LX in white. Cracking car thrashed it to death though....

1980 W Daimler Double Six HE. In Old English white with red leather, met the current Memsahb in it, sold it when I couldn't afford to replace both fuel tanks....

1985 C Granada Scorpio 2.8, in burgundy. Owned for a month when HGF was followed by the big ends letting go, swapped for £100 and...

1985 B Volvo 340 1.4GL, in Burgundy (again). Best car I've ever owned, fantastic tool for the snow covered Norfolk by-roads, traded in for....

1988 E Citroen BX GTi 16v, in red What a tool that was, especially after chavving it up a bit, until the hydraulics let go big time on the A47 that is...

1985 C Rover 216 Vitesse in red, another favourite of mine, owned until terminal rot caused its extinction. Traded in for...

1992 J Fiat Tempra 1.6 SX in met. grey with the digi dash, Bag. Of. Shite. That is all.

1985 C Montego 2.0 VDP in red. Bought for £150 when the Tempramental ate its own carb (yes really!!!) leaked everything apart from water. Knocked and rattled but never got me down. Traded in for.

1988 E Sierra Sapphire 2.0 Ghia auto in met green. Only sold as boot was too small for shopping and baby buggy.

1987 E Audi 100 Avant 2.2. In blue (again?) bought out of free ads for £900, developed brake failure warning 2 days later, told £900 to fix, sold very quickly....

1991 H Granada Scorpio 2.0. Bought for £1,200, developed HGF on the A38 on way to Cornwall, got me back though so I drove it on until it started running on 2 cylinders, sold to a very desparate neighbour who kept it for another 3 months!!!!!

1988 E Mazda 626 2.0GT 16V, in silver and what a weapon, gave to my Dad.

1993 K Carlton 2.0 CD Estate Auto. In met burgundy and a customs siezure, boring as Noel Edmonds but got me around, traded in for...

1999 T Mitsi Space Wagon 2.4 GDI, in blue. Another tedious car which had a massive engine failure at 48,000. Thrown back at finance co.

1987 E Subaru 1.8 GLSE Auto, yep met blue. Another car given to Dad.

1993 K Vauxhall Astra 1.7 TD LS Estate in Silver. Bought from Fleabay for £560, boiled over on way home but repaired it and used it for 4 months when I sold it to the same desperate neighbour.

1988 R Escort 1.8 TD LX in Red. Again bought from Fleabay (still haven't learned) and had a brake pipe let go on the way home, gearbox go a week later, and various other faults. Swapped for...

1990 G Shogun 3.0 V6 in black over silver. Great car, owned for 2 years and sold when I bought...

1992 J Range Rover 3.9 Vogue SE, again in blue. Sold when a promotion meant I couldn't afford to run it.

1993 K Skoda Favorite 136LS, in blue (surprise) bought as a stopgap until this was delivered

2007 57 Fiat Doblo 1.4 Dynamic. My only new car, owned for 5 years but sold to release some capital.

1999 T Peugeot 306 1.9 TD GLX estate, in silver, utter POS, sold to a local 'dealer'

2002 52 Citroen C5 2.0 SX Auto, in Green and my current ride until my Dad finishes borrowing.

2003 53 Mundano 1.8 LX, yes in blue.

There is also an L reg Festa, R reg Frogomite (green Dolomite),E reg Audi 80S, W reg Merc 280CE, J reg Toyota Town Ace Master Ace Surf R reg Jag XJ8, C reg Midget, but I can't remember when I bought these lol

Sorry if that's 15 minutes of your life you'll never get back, but I had to get it off of my chest.

Always wanted an Alfa, but never have opportunity and fiscals combined. As for Lancia, did have a chance of a Thema Turbot when I bought the Merc. but I foolishly bought that thinking it would last longer, it lasted 3 weeks until a HGF.

As for a SSSSannnggyoooonnngg, I know that they in some way the ultimate Shite car, but even I have some standards lol

Hmmm, Yank shite, I'd happily swap the Shaguar for something Yank and interesting, I'd love an '80s Chevvy Caprice or Ford LTD for some reason, even a Caddy of the same vintage. The Mrs might not be so happy though (she wants to get married, or something, using the Jag as a wedding car).

Think again. A Korando in ijustpukedmyredwine-metallic? No?

I enjoyed reading that :) Not one Renault, but you've reminded me that I need to own a Fiat Tempra at some point.

Interesting that the Fiat Doblo was your only new car. Also interesting that you couldn't afford to run the Range rover after a promotion. Did they promote you to the cold meats counter?

I jest of course. :D

Yep Doblo was only new car, won't be doing that again, and the promotion meant I went from doing 100 miles a month to 1,000, so needed much more economical car.

My friends all think I have had loads of cars since my first in 1992 but I can't match the above, but here goes:

1992-1993 Renault 5TL 1108cc A???YNP (IIRC) in yellow with a grey hammerite bottom third it had a sunroof, five speed box and comfy cloth seats - it also blew two head gaskets, snapped a crankshaft, the circuit board behind the dashboard burnt out, the speedo stopped working and I wrote off a three year old Volvo 440 at an roundabout by Merry Hill, the Renault came away with a scuffed plastic bumper and a small dent in the wing. I traded it in at a very dodgy garage for the following, if only I had it now though!

1993-1995 Ford Fiesta 1117cc Popular Plus SUE219W, I hated it but mum liked it so we had it instead of a Y reg 1.3 Escort, it was noisy and uncomfortable and the engine was knackered, it was fun though after I had a recon engine and Weber Carb fitted

1995-1996 Vauxhall Astra 1.3LS 3rd in Red A594GLA pure luxury would cruise at 120 so the speedo said it was very optimistic, would show 50 at 30. Five speed gearbox and very well put together and looked immaculate. One elderly owner and 40,000 miles. However when I had it mot'd it needed £300 of welding all across the rear, it was rotten. Eventually the camshaft went so I sold it

1996-1997 Ford Sierra 1.6L E-Max C reg in a bluey/green and a 4 speed box, had a sticking valve and one of the head bolts had been rounded off, so I sold it and was told later that the rear suspension had gone through the boot floor, and eventually was written off after being driven into a tree!

1997-1998 Ford Orion 1.6DL C182ETT in blue, I thought finally I had a good car it was comfy, economical and I loved the styling even though everyone thought I was a mini-cab. However I started to have difficulty starting it and was told the engine was buggered, it seemed to have very little power I was offered a cheap second hand engine by a AA man I knew but I had decided I wanted a more expensive car, the Orion soldered on till 2000 with the replacement engine

1998-2001 Rover Maestro Clubman Diesel non turbo H711HDU, cost me £1,600 and was in good condition and drove well, also seemed refined compared to the Orion. Eventually it started showing signs of the dreaded tin worm, the electrics gave up the ghost and the drivers seat would recline on its own, very disturbing when doing 70 on the motorway, part ex'd it for:

2001-2006 Fiat Tipo 1.6 DGT H783PWP with digital dash, was great at first but eventually the drivers seat became so worn you could feel the frame through it. When it was finally part ex'd by my parents for a Megane the dash caught fire when the dealer drove it to the scrapyard

2001-2003 Fiat Uno 1.1 S G199CKV 3 door bought it for my mum, was an ace car really quick, quiet, roomy and comfortable, eventually head gasket went and valves were worn, it still sits on the front garden of a house in Stourbridge!

2003-2003 BMW 318I 4 door in Black F reg only had it for two months when a girl went into the back of it in a Renault Clio at around 40mph, the roof had a kink in it, her car was worse in fact although she had an airbag she was unconscious when I went to see if she was okay! Written off by the insurers, never got the chance to enjoy it

2003-2005 Rover 825SLD M489??? in red very imposing and comfortable, bought it off our works accountant, fast and economical, but on snapping the second ball joint in a matter of weeks and damaging the body a bit I part ex'd it for my best ever car

2005-2006 Volvo 440GLE G reg in battle ship grey cost £175 passed an mot with only needing a headlight cleaning and was the most comfortable and satisfying car to own. Eventually the power steering pump gave up and I swapped it for a:

2006-2007 FIat Punto 55S with the Fire engine it was a black 3 door and P reg, it looked good but was noisy on the motorway, definately a backward step from the UNO in my mind, sold it to a work colleague

2007-2011 Peugeot 206 LX automatic 1.4 BL51FYW, bought from work (it was a company car) was quite fun to drive but thirsty for a 1.4. I know it is not fashionable here but I thought it was a good car but it was the newest I ever had, eventually a gave it to my parents when I decided to take the train to work and pursue my love for 70's cars

2009-2010 Austin Maxi 1750HL in Brookland Green PHT247R bought for £100 and mot'd for £60 stupid me sold it a year later, since then it has been in three hands and is now for sale at a Classic Car specialist in the Salisbury area as a resto project. Sold it because it needed a new wing and two wheel arches and I thought it was too much to take on

2010-2011 Austin 1100 UCA197D in blue, drove it back from North Wales with a knackered gearbox, had it rebuilt but sold it to Torsten as the MOT was up, my second selling regret after the Maxi

2011-? Renault 14TL V reg imported from France currently on SORN and probably for sale as it needs a bit of welding in an awkward area and I just don't have the time or money at the moment. I have had my enjoyment of owning it but I think it needs to go to someone with more practical skills, or be used for parts as it is quite tatty!

2010-2011 Austin Allegro 1300 Super in antique Gold TLX202R was told it was retailable by a specialist if it wasn't for the crunch second gear, an ebay unseen purchase. He never mentioned the very smokey engine, the leaking clutch and leaking radiator. It is currently on ebay for sale at a garage in Oxford after having a engine rebuilt

2011-2011 Austin Allegro 3 1.3L, W reg, silver according to BL but really Gold, saved it from the inevitable mini owner intervention but needed quite a bit of welding so I sold it on to an enthusiast. He then sold it a few months later but it still seems to live on according to the DVLA. It was quite tidy and had a good engine.

2011-2013 Austin Maxi 1750 WOD389S painted Matt Black originally Sandglow, was in a garage since 1997 I bought it for £100 on the promise I would put it back on the road. It is nearly there but again, time, money and weather has not been on my side. Hopefully it will be on the road in January/February. I may keep it Black but I may sell it and get a more original Maxi.

I also have the use of my parents Megane Scenic (well I am the only one who drives it) it has been surprisingly reliable, but has all the traditional Renault hallmarks, of dodgy electrics, cheap plastic and plenty of body roll!
