This is my SEAT although its 2004. Most reliable car I have ever had and at the same time looks nicely worn - loadsa paint chips and small dents. Keeping it for a long time yet.

Despite my slight* anti-VAGness that is a decent looking car. Is it a turbo or n/a and how do you find the fuel consumption? Only asking because I'd heard the V5 turbo can be a bit juicy.

Wasn't there a white Seat at the top of the page?

Yes, there was. Thats what I replied to. What happened there then?

Its a 1.8T rather than a V5. Fuel consumption isn't actually too bad - about 34mpg normally and on a long run it might reach the dizzy heights of 37mpg!

Oh thank goodness! I was beginning to feel like the little kid in the story about the Emperor's New Clothes. I really don't get the constant unquestioning adoration of VAG that seems to be everywhere around me (including, to my eternal dismay, both my stepchildren). I have never owned one of their products, although I've driven many, and am now nursing an iron determination to maintain that position. You read it here folks, I'll never own one.

Thread drift I know; sorry. I didn't think it would matter much as we seem to have mislaid the original opening post.

I'm not a big VAG fan by anymeans. But....

I was offered my Toledo in 2007 when it was three years old and it was VERY cheap at the time. I've done about 50k in it in the last five years in its been bombproof. Mega reliable, cheap enough to run and something I would trust 110% to take me anywhere tomorrow. Plus its pretty comfy and fast which is good enough for me.

If it was a Golf or Passat it'd have cost me a lot more but it isn't and it didn't and whilst I can't see why people pay far too much for VW products when they aren't anything better than the opposition, the right model in the right spec at the right price is a good car (though that applies to a lot of stuff doesn't it).

For a car at that size / price I would highly recomend one.

Welcome back Andrew Space Otter 1963 -the War on Spam's first victim of Friendly Fire.

Back on topic, I have happy* memories of having to use the gearstick A LOT to row a turbo-less diesel one of these up and down the Pyrenees on holiday in the mid 90s. It was grim. Well done for saving this one - I hope you have a sparkier engine though.
