Just got an e-mail for my advert, is it spam?

The question wasn't "Should I deal with a known timewaster?"

An offer of £245 under the asking price, generally speaking isn't spam IMHO.

One or two sensitive souls here must be a nightmare to buy from.

I sold a GS500 earlier this year spares or repair and the first offer I got was "would I take an old lap top, a push bike and £80 mate?"!! He was a Dundonian and that's just how they operate!

PS. Good luck with the sale :)

Having read some of the offers made on cars I sell they do seem to be abrupt and to the point.I think many people use email the seller a bit like leaving a message on an answer-phone, "this is ,err, Fred, err call me", so it comes across as abrupt.

This is quite simple

I see your point, but why put best offer on there if you're not actually interested in accepting offers?

when listing with a best offer option there is also an option to automatically decline offers below a certain price. This is probably what happened. He didn't respond because your offer was automatically declined.

As has been said already the original offer is not spam just a ham-fisted attempt at lowering the price. Why is it that people only try to haggle when buying cars.I don't go and do my weekly shop at Tesco's then when I'm asked for 40 quid I don't turn around and say "actually I only want to pay 30" yet it seems normal to haggle over a car sale.
