Any Motorhog buyers here?

Evening chaps,

Quick question for anyone who's bought a car on Motorhog... can you pay over the phone with your card??

The offices are closed until Monday, I need to coordinate it getting picked up ASAP. Bank Transfer can't be done over the weekend as I've lost the stupid security key I need to access it!

Thanks in advance!

Never bought one, but bought loads of parts, scrapped a few cars there. It's about 2 miles from my house. Odd place to deal with. Lots if rules, but no organisation!

It certainly seems that way. Read very mixed reviews on dealings with the place :?

I have bought 2 cars from Motorhog, my low mileage Fiesta Mk2 which is just about to hit the road after a protracted mini-restoration due to illness, it's had a new arch, sill ends welded and is nearly ready for a bottom half respray, the other is my son's Micra which was taxed and tested but had a key snapped off in the door lock and has done 6000 miles since we bought it in March. It would have done a lot more if it hadn't been off the road for 2 months after he hit a Hyundai Tucson in July, both were bought after a thorough inspection and I think that is the secret when buying from Motorhog.

Runs and drives mean it moves a couple of feet under it's own steam nothing more, having said that I have no complaints about what I bought as they cost me less than £450 for the pair.

When you go there you see transporters full of P/X's arriving from around the dealerships and they do get one or two interesting things amongst them, if you bear in mind you are buying something sold to a breakers yard and don't expect a perfect car you won't be disappointed.

Cheers Tonka, I'm a bit apprehensive to be honest but there's not much to lose should it all go tits up. Obviously, being on the other side of the Irish Sea, viewing wasn't possible. I'm having it transported home this week, we'll see what awaits.... :)

Just for future reference - transactions under £1k (which probably applies to all of us shiters) can be paid for by card over the phone.

Now just the anxious wait for it to come home!

I've had two MANUAL versions of these and they really are actually lovely cars that unlike the model which followed don't give trouble - however I've just read the ad and seen it's an Auto and noticed your quote

Lets hope that gearbox is fairly intact

Haha - I think not.

Good luck

What I like about Renaults, is the fact that even hardcore Renner lovers cheerfully jest about how inevitable a terminal meltdown is of some fundamental vehicle system, unlike most blinkered one-marque fanbois who will not hear a word of it..... "its all due to careless owners not doing XYZ properly, etc etc"

How dare you! Renault 18s have ALWAYS "Failed to proceed"

Most of the others are complete shite - but very endearing shite

That's the main reason I love this forum, nothing like a bit of unpredictability with our motoring, I don't think any of us have Toyota Carinas?? :P

I've just been having a look at that Motorhog site, it seems you have to go to one of their sites with your paperwork in order to register, is that right?

I’ve seen something on there that’s winking at me but it finishes tomorrow!

Agh if it finishes tomorrow then you haven't a chance unless you go there. I learnt the hard way too! No I registered on the site then they give you an address of where to send your documents to. Approval was very quick, about 3 days and I had my documents back as well. No fee unlike Copart!! This Meggy is the first I've bought and I registered on the site about a year ago... they have a steady trickle of V6 Renners which I'll no doubt tap into if this one goes smoothly.

Motorhog near Doncaster ??

Bunch of cheating lying sneering bastards ! Father in law bought a 75 from them, and it didn't even make it home;the alternator packed up and left us stranded at night in the pouring rain with my wife as passenger who has mobility issues. Not only did it come with only 1 key,but also when arrived after driving from Suffolk,it wasn't even taxed !

When I phoned the next working day,I was offered a second hand alternator;no offers of labour charges towards getting the car back on the road or any assistance. Well, unless " drive it back and we will fit the used part " Well,if the effing thing hadn't died on us,and had to be recovered home which was then 40 miles away, then maybe we could, but we were over 200 miles away on a saturday night in pitch black. The car was dead, and would have cost a few quid to transport back. There was a offer of £50,but then they withdrew it leaving father in law over £300 out of pocket. When we got the log book,we then discovered the previous owner had only had it a few weeks, and not as described.

Surely an alternator could pack in at any time. If the car was sold without warranty then the offer of a replacement part would seem fairly reasonable to me.

And didn't you check the tax situation beforehand? Or do you mean they lied and claimed it was taxed when in fact it wasn't?

Yeah they seem to be a breakers yard/salvage disposal/cheap px disposal set-up, i'd be very surprised if the deal was not 'buy 100% at your own risk'. Admittedly i've just had a look at their T&C's and there is plenty of details on parts sales and car auctions, but I see they also do some straightforwrd car sales as well. How did you buy the 75?

The car was sold with a 30 day warranty and had been ' Inspected through our workshops and is taxed and MOT'd '. The car was advertised on Autotrader . Was only when he had paid for it did we find out the lost spare key and the lack of road tax
