Mint Horizon bridged....

I met the last owner, he was the gate guard at a wind farm construction site I did some work on. I mentioned that I'd seen it at shows and he mumbled something about the previous owner. He clearly had no love for the car, and I'm not sure how he came by it.

There are more pictures in the RR thread here, look at the carpet mats and the Radio Tay sticker. http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... =8#1662851

The Radio Tay sticker is almost as old as the car.. I worked for Tay until a couple of years ago and those stickers were the first they put out when the station launched in 1980.

Shitting hell, I papped this at the Bridge of Allan Classic Car show over the summer and had a good look round it.

The car was mint and looked totally original.

I am in the worst possible position to take on any form of shite but even I'd have bought it for £140 and then sold it on for a profit!!

Unbelievable. :?:

The trouble is when selling cars, you always get the ' I would buy it but ...... ' which tends to frustrate sellers of cars, and I can understand why people can't be bothered due to the great tyre kicking motorist, and end up killing off something which could give the right person a great deal of pleasure in owning.

If the Horizon hasn't been destroyed,it could be saved, with effort.Buy the salvage, maybe have to buy it in a few bits, bolt it back together, and get it registered out of the UK,and ten bring her back 'alive'. Yes,its a hell of a lot of trouble, but if someone really wanted to save the lovely little green gremlin, they would do it

A customer of mine scrapped a mint 1985 Honda CRX as it was old,he was having a heart bypass, and couldn't be bothered with a car which to him wasn't worth a lot;pity he didn't say as I would have given it a home, especially as there was one on the net for £2400 ! I told him it was worth more than he thought, but he had no love for the car,and is happy with his Madza 2 .

To some people,a car is just nuts and bolts bolting plastic and metal together, and such inanimate objects have little value to them ... they need educating !!

Whenever I read a story like this, I have the pathetic desire to see what such a retarded dipshit, who does something like this, looks like.

Same goes for that woman, who weighs a car in the day before someone shows up for an agreed pick up.

If my Bluebird had remained unsold for another week or so it's likely I would have had to scrap it due to lack of space. It would have really hurt, but I was completely fed up of timewasters and no shows. I can see why decent cars get crushed or traded in for stupidly low values, since it avoids having to deal with potential buyers. People saying "I'd have that if I had the cash/space/it was closer" might be a compliment, but is basically fuck all use when you're trying to get a car shifted (and yes, I fully include myself in that, since I've said those words many times on here)

If you read to the end of the RR thread it looks as if it's already been stripped by the owner of the orange one and will have been crushed. The way Upullit works is you "buy" a car at slightly more than you would pay for a good example that's still on the road. They put it in a bay for you and you get a working day to strip whatever you want off it- but you're not allowed to take the shell, cat or battery. If you want the engine or gearbox you're not allowed to remove them yourself and there is an extra charge for Upullit to do it. They do put cars out in the yard too, but the Horizon was never going there and the shell would still have to be destroyed.

I don't know what the guy would have paid to strip the Horizon but I'm guessing it wasn't less than £400. Most cars are in the £500-£1000 (+VAT) range with some costing even more.

Words fail me.

There would have been plenty of takers especially being such an early and tidy car - it just beggars belief really. Simcas/Talbots have a strong following and most of the enthusisasts for them seem to have more than one car. A real shame.

The story about the Mazda 323 is just a good illustration of modern society - it's old, throw it away.
