Guest Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Shurely shome shiteist should shnap this up sharpish? http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/clas ... -8v/734465 I drove one of these from Edinburgh to Thurso and back in 1989. It was made of tin cans, but was mega to drive.
skattrd Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 There have been a couple on the ebay tat thread, I think I posted that one yesterday .... link There's also a very dusty 16v BX GTi on ebay as well
beko1987 Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I really want one after reading this thread:http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1196585&mid=0&i=0&nmt=RE%3A+SOTW%3A+Citroen+BX+GTI+8v&mid=0 SOTW this week. Anyone want to swap one for a ZX?
forddeliveryboy Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 OP, all modern cars are made of tin cans. Just that some are honest enough to remind you of that fact when you close their doors. The blown dizzle was just as fast in the real world, with the same seats and suspension. So much better than any Xantia or whatever followed. Is that nsr wheel beginning to cant in at the top, PSA-style?
dollywobbler Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Looks alright to be. Unlike PSA stuff, the arm bearings are a pretty easy job and don't require you to replace an entire axle. Don't know why Pug 205 ones were made of unobtanium. I'd like to try an 8-valve GTi. They're meant to be pretty darned good, though obviously the suspension is not as OMG NITEMARE as the writer of the Pistonheads piece suggests. They are quite tinny though...
Mr_Bo11ox Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Is the arm bearing job any different between one of these and a 205/405 or whatever?
dollywobbler Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Is the arm bearing job any different between one of these and a 205/405 or whatever? The main difference is that you can get the bearing. I've not done one or seen one done on a Pugrot, I just know that people get all WE'RE DOOMED if there's too much negative camber. I've no idea how the rear suspension works on the Pug. The BX is quite simple as you can remove the tension in the rear suspension by de-pressurising the hydraulics. A quick Google results in this quote from 205GTIDRIVERS.com. "It is this initial part of removing the arm from the torsion bar that causes so much horror." So that'll be a difference. However, he then goes on to try and convince folk that it's not too bad really - like a great many 'horror' stories.
