Renault Laguna V6 24V S reg spares or repairs?

Well after a great trouble free 5 years my wifes Laguna V6 has given up with terminal gearbox failure, rare on a V6 being a LMO box made by ZF but its packed up.

Drove fantastic until the box failed and never needed a recovery truck even on the day the box failed,it still limped home!

Its a L7X 24V V6 which is bulletproof and 196BHP has full service history since day 1,every entry in the service book, loads from me when i serviced it as i work for Renault.

Lots of invoices, everything worked spot on,A/C was ice cold, only thing was the cruise control which never worked.

Mileage is about 105k but speedo went to zero at 100k(infact at 500k as the speedo went funny and showed 400k until it reached 500k then went to zero)but paperwork MOTS prove mileage.

Both keys(spare a little damaged but works perfect)

Its twilight blue with full grey leather interior and 6 disc CD player, its a V6 24V Executive the top Laguna you could buy at the time.

MOT into Oct tax just traded in.Does have dings a few marks but nothing serious,no rust at all,the underside is fine.

The gearbox is U/S so needs replacing,it will drive for a short distance.

Would make great spares car, open to offers, based in Surrey near Jun 11 M25.

Yeah i was thinking the same, was going to have a go at saving it,but finding a LMO box is difficult, proves they don,t go wrong much?

Absolutely.

'Hi, Twatterson autospares, how can I help?'

Have you got a working Renault automatic gearbox in stock please?

[stifled laughter] 'Oh yes, they're in a pile next to the rocking horse manure'

A Laguna V6 with a fecked auto box? Never!!!

A friend of mine has an S plate V6 and the gearbox is almost dead on it too...

Have you a price in mind? I know someone with a gearbox just waiting to go into it

Doesn't surprise me, I killed 3 of the things back in my Audi 100/200 daze.

All that ZF maketh is not turned from a solid block of granite, lightly salted with essence of diamonds, and marinaded in a light jus of extract of titanium. Indeed, some stuff they make has all the tensile strength of bloody liquorice.

Yes indeed...

Otherwise, the two I had were great. Apart from the first one being as rotten as a pear, and both eating their own piston rings by 75000miles. I'd still have a series 1 V6 though... 8)

oooh - that looks nice - I do love an XM!

I should worry about the autobox in my TCT then - lol

Campbell, just keep the fluid & filters clean and make sure the cooler's doing its job. And don't be surprised if, despite all that, the box turns to chocolate at around 120K...

18000 miles to go then! ;-)

If you're looking for something equally sensible to replace it with I've got a 51-pate Laguna II V6 going cheap. Most of it even still works. Including the gearbox. Although for how long is anyone's guess.

Wuvvum is that a Dynamique, Privilège or Initiale? (yes I have spent many a lonely night in the Laguna II brochure)

According to this site

http://www.theautomaticgearboxcompany.c ... enault.htm

the Laguna V6 has the ZF 4HP20 autobox which is the same as in my 406. Reading around the 406 forums, mainly the Coupe one as it has the most V6 autos, this autobox doesn't have a particular reputation for fragility, certainly nothing like the french AL4 used in the smaller engined models. Mine is about to pass the 120k mark so I hope it doesn't turn to chocolate. Good luck to anyone who takes on this Laguna. The V6 is a very fine engine.
