Sweet!

Lovely looking car, but sadly only with the 2.0 non-turbo engine. I've driven a 2.0 Coupe, it sounds like Montego and was utterly dreadful to drive, it just felt wrong, very wrong.

If there ever was a right car with a wrong engine, this is it.

I saw an M-reg Sterling on the outskirts of Southend when I was giving The Volvo some exercise this evening :)

And you didnt get a pic!:(

The M-reg Sterling would be a 2.7 V6. The lower engined Sterlings (2.0) didnt come about until around 1996.

I was driving at 40 mph and didn't have a camera

I do recall that it was painted Caribbean Blue, though* :)

*I've not owned a Rover for almost nine years, but am still quite knowledgeable about their colours and specs *wag*

They do seem very rare now. My dad's friend had an immaculate Honda engined gold (with cream leather) coupé circa 2006. Low mileage and very tidy, he scrapped it when it needed a new steering rack for the MOT. DVLA reckon it lasted until 2009, so someone must have repaired it (L385 VCE).

Shep, is the M reg Sterling parked in Newington Avenue? I think I saw one there not long ago.

Lord Sterling, is the 2.0 engine in the MK2 the same as the one fitted to the MK1? (sorry, I don't know much about Rovers of this era). My dad owned an E reg MK1 2.0 saloon and he often raves about it, saying it was one of the nicest cars to drive he'd ever owned, smooth, quiet and powerful. It towed a caravan for a lot of miles and he said it was one of a few cars that didn't struggle towing it. The Rover replaced a 1.6 BX which certainly did!

I saw it in Sutton with Shopland - the back roads between Southend and Rochford are part of my drive-out route :)

Shep - Sounds like a nice car.

Please keep a look out for it. I am kind of (in a rather sad way) trying to collect as many pics of 800s as I can as they are getting rarer.

AD - The 2.0 in the mk1s and mk2s are different, the mk1s had the 2.0 M-series engine. After 1991, the mk2s came with the 2.0 T-series engine which I'm told are more robust.

I had a 2.0 M16e which was single point injected, never had a problem despite years of neglect, it pulled well enough, especially at higher speeds.

It looked quite nice, albeit a bit dirty. I'm sure that someone loves it, though :)

I often see a grey V-reg fastback of indeterminate model designation on the way to work. It makes me smile :D

Still better than a KV6!

There's a VGC one in da estate behind my house with a rather childish burbling stainless exhaust, finally saw it being driven yesterday by an elderly black lady - not the quite driver I imagined!
