Interesting, I always wondered what was the etymology behind the Turkish BMC. They briefly made (ugly) trucks for ERF too

Currently they sell the BMC Falcon, Hawk and Club in the UK IIRC. Industry contacts who have used such vehicles refer to BMC as standing for "Buses Made Cheaply"...

I always liked those weird looking ERFs. A lot of the dustcarts round here are BMCs.

I think they've fared better over here, with the buses than the trucks. It's the same recipe tho'; Cummins engine, ZF box and steering gear, Meritor axles. All nice and well understood by your average fitter, and his local factors, so no great servicing problems.

They were supposed to be putting some effort into cracking the UK 7.5-18T market some years ago. They offered package deals, such as the bin trucks, and council-spec multi purpose tippers and so on. Along with Mitsubishi Fuso, Daewoo Avia and others, they seem to have ground to a halt, even in these straitened times; 'cos the trucks are just that bit too pov-spec for even the hardest hearted, penny-pinching gaffer to order!

However, the package deal ethos seems to have worked out better in the bus market; there's a few operators round here (notably Rennies in Dunfermline) who don't mind chucking a luxury* coach at the school run!

Wasn't the ERF EP6 just a recab of the ES/EC6 chassis, after MAN pulled the plug on the formerly Steyr cab that ERF were using? Small wonder the Turks thought the Cummins/ZF/Meritor combo would sell here; that's what they'd have seen being bolted onto the chassis rails in Sandbach, and in Leyland too...
