I wasn't expecting much action on this for another month but these arrived in my inbox this morning.

If you like, I can rummage through the skip and my local KwikFit and get some Hunter bits, namely a rusty Mondeo TDCi exhaust, an Avensis OSR shocker and a 225/50/17 part for for a Monkey, innit?

My Uncle Dave was transport manager at Bulmers in Hereford back in the 70s. He had a couple of Hunters as company cars, including a GLS. The 8-year-old me always loved the dash...

With such a turnover of threads it's easy to miss great thread like this, which I did. Never had anything to do with Rootes stuff in our family so nothing is familiar. I always thought the styling was fairly sharp back in the day without being exceptional. However seeing it now (awesome steering wheel!) I'm converted, and a nice change from retro Fords..

Somwwhere I have an AA DRIVE magazine from around 1975 where they take a front ended M reg Grunter 1725GL and repanel it, calculating the exact repair costs. It was done at the newly opened insurance research place at Thatcham.

If I can find it, I'll copy and paste up some pics.

There's a Rapier in the same colour proudly perched on top of a heap of other scrapped cars at a yard on Clarkes Lane (A462) in Willenhall if anyone's interested. Spotted it this Tuesday.

Moving on to the left side.....

The GLS came with black aluminium sill covers fitted, they looked very well but there was a serious downside. Having two metals together was not a good idea, the sills disintegrated much faster while the covers still looked like new.

The Hunter has been neglected of late due to other cars, mainly the Audi 200 being a bastard.

New rear valance on so all the welding done.

Time to strip the rest of the soundproofing from the boot....

Not good. The chances of finding repair panels for this section are probably zero and it's an extremely awkward place to weld properly.

I'm off to find another Hunter to chop up.
