Anyone fancy a Volvo S80?

Right, I bought this last week on impulse at a local auction. I'm not in a major rush to get rid as I do like driving it, but tbh it's a bit too big for me for daily use, and I really want a smaller diesel/auto/estate. As I keep it I'll try and get the few issues its got sorted and when they're all done I'll advertise it properly elsewhere.

2000 S80 2.5D SE Auto

Tax - end Oct 2012

MOT - November 2012

Mileage - 117k

Cream (beige) leather interior with heated front seats, dual zone climate with nice cold aircon. Factory tape/cd/radio with steering wheel controls. Auto box shifts as it should, engine is the 5-pot 2.5l Audi affair and all seems fine with that. I've done 700 miles in it since I bought it and it's a really nice drive and handles great for a big car. Fuel economy should be quite good as its doing under 2500rpm @ 70mph, so a nice motorway machine, I'll update fuelly when I refill the tank and get an mpg figure in a day or two. Some history, cambelt was done @ 83k, interval on these is 80k or 10yrs.

It has a few issues, nothing major, but they are:

Cruise control not working - it engages but then disengages after a few mins. I shall investigate as I like cruise

Drivers door lock temperamental - It works, it just sometimes relocks when you try and open with the exterior handle - Module/ecu type thing in the door is the likely culprit (£25 ebay).

Alarm system - it says it needs a service, but the interwebs tell me its likely to be a faulty alarm module/ecu type thing .... Bottom of my list of things to look at, prob means visit to scrappers to get more replacement electronic gubbins.

Shiters price (and what the car owes me) £760

I’ll post some pics tonight ... but its dark red in colour - venetian red?

I managed to get out of work early today so popped round to the garage and replaced the front ABS sensors and job done. ABS & traction control now fully working, cruise control now sort of works, but not properly.

Pics as promised, apologies but the car is a bit dirty as I was more concerned with fixing ABS than washing it:

Does the horn work? My friend bought a V70 recently and had issues with the horn and cruise control, it was down to the steering wheel control unit.

One of these would be FTW, luxury modern Volvo but with a vegetable oil friendly engine. :D

My 240 is going soon, and this is the first car that i'd consider a worthy replacement! Just confused.comming the insurance...

Cheers for the comments chaps, I take it my impulse purchase is understandable then ;)

It is a very comfy car and I do enjoy wafting around in it, I just wish it was a bit smaller ... I'm not in a big rush to shift it, I've got 1000+ miles to do next week (not uncommon for me) but the thought of using this is more pleasurable than the more economical boring.

I thought the engine may be veg friendly as it is an older type (non common rail) but I've not checked or tried it.

The horn works and the steering wheel module is fine as the radio controls work and so does the cruise button. After 10mins research I'm thinking it may be the brake position sensor ... More research needed then a visit to the scrapyard beckons.

Where about in Lincs are you?

Fatha_L had one of these, same interior but in silvery gold and it was a pez. Lovely car, I'd love one!

Cheers for the comments guys, 'tis a nice barge :D

Ok, so I just filled it up ... 43mpg on the last tank full, which I don't think is too bad for a car this size.

I think I'll be driving slightly more economically (slowly) on this tank full, I reckon I can get it over 45mpg.

I do like these. You should try an S60 though. Same thing, but smaller and IMHO more attractive. The proportions make the S60 a beautiful looking thing. Definitely one of my favourite saloons of all time.

I do like the S60 DW, but I want an estate and the estate versions weren't brought out until a few years later, so they are way out of my price range.

I think I'll be replacing it with a c class estate, the cheapest w202 turbo diesel I can find .... BCA car auctions is looking like the best option for one of those.
