wackywacerwill Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I've had half an eye out for another oil burner since moving on the golf and having my hand forced with the DI transit. A for sale on RR caught my eye so I let it be know that I'd like to have a looksee when the car was available (It was still in the hands of the previous owner who was using it daily). My newly ordered A frame arrived by courier Friday afternoon and not long after I had a call from a nice chap called Terry to say he would have the car by Saturday lunchtime, some work business for me not far from where he is based brought a plan in fruition and Saturday morning(ish) saw me motoring around the 25 towards the A3. Saw this nice Cortina being sedately driven on the way down.Loads of old clunckers heading coast bound spotted on the way home too though having my phone plugged through the headunit playing HMHB means no pics of them, sorry. The seller Terry was a nice chap and showed me around his workshop and awesome big yanky wrecker project with newly installed iveco turdblow lump, no pics of that either though suffice to say I'm more than a little jealous The 309 was all I hoped (french, diseasal, a bit shitty) so I hooked it up and hauled it home on the back of the pikey wagon. The A frame worked a treat and went even better after I remembered to release the handbrake on the Pug I stopped to tighten the straps once after chucking through the very nice twisty Surrey/Sussex roads and grab a roadkill burger at a favourite joint just passed Bramley. They'd come a fair bit loose so I vowed to make another stop at Clacket Lane services only to find the straps reassuringly still tight, pissed in the bushes and motored home. All seven shades of shit make up the interior decor And to top it off the paints that murky silvery/goldy which is much better than the silver I thought it was by the advert picture. It's been owned by a Mrs for the last 2 years and done 8k giving reportedly no cause for concern and before that was with the same person from new who if the service book is to be believed kept it fully stamped up until 72k. I've got all the old mot's which back up the low miles plus 2 sets of keys and krook lock It needs a tenners worth of new track rod ends and possibly some new front flexi brake hoses and they were advisory items 6 months back and I'm willing to bet they haven't been touched. Anyone got a nearside rear lamp lens or a towbar kicking around?
Lankytim Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Is this the one from the other forum? If so it looks great! I wish my 205 had two more doors... Top budget shiting! *edit* just re-read the post and you mention it's from RR, must read harder next time!
Wilko220 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Nice - I had a 309 and LOVED it, even though mine didn't even have the benefit of the boat engine or brown interior...
wackywacerwill Posted June 16, 2012 Author Posted June 16, 2012 Thanks, yep that's the one tall Tim. As ever it looks better in the pics than in the metal though I'm promising myself not to get carried away with aesthetics on this one. It will no doubt get the new car spit and polish treatment at some point soon and I think I may have enough derv oil left for a quick fluid swap while I'm at it then it's just a case of waiting for payday till I can tax it as it's looking unlikely the ebay bmw is going to add to the shite slush fund.
wackywacerwill Posted June 16, 2012 Author Posted June 16, 2012 Opps, missed a post whilst slow typing.Nice - I had a 309 and LOVED it, even though mine didn't even have the benefit of the boat engine or brown interior... Cheers, it's good reports from here that made me go for one. That and enjoying your brothers old 205 too.
jonathan_dyane Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Excellent work, top motah! (Hannu Mikkula drove a Peugeot...)
Largactil Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Splendid stuff, Will! (Looks rather luxurious inside in comparison to the peasant 205 ) Will look forward to the updates!
wackywacerwill Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 Excellent work, top motah! (Hannu Mikkula drove a Peugeot...) Splendid stuff, Will! (Looks rather luxurious inside in comparison to the peasant 205 ) Will look forward to the updates! Crazy luxo spec this one, really wasn't expecting it to be so but it has; Fag lighter , clock, glovebox, rear wiper and 5 gears plus reverse! It has central locking too which actually works (only ever had 3 cars with this feature and the other 2 were broken). Quite taken with the vacuum sealing sunroof too, it hasn't even leaked yet either. Only noticed the other day that it's got power steering too!!! Stereo is sadly broken or needing code or something Good work that man. Keep on 'framin!!!! Great bit of kit the frame, should of got one ages ago. Next job's running a little yellow Suzuki in for test on my way to work, it makes life so cheap and easy. I've been very much enjoying the new purchase since pick up though in true to form style it had not been without fault. No sooner had I found the funds for a tax disc it developed a hill top starting tenancy, the battery was prime suspect though I thought it'd be no major drama as I live on a big hill and have driven for months with shite battery as on the return journey it has more often than not been given enough boost due to the charging whilst driving. That said I nearly got caught out after I dumped it on the double yellows outside the co-op and then got boxed in (double yellow parking is just the done thing on my local high street), much pushing to and throw followed by a run, jump, bump just had it fired before the red light at the cross roads The next day I wasn't so lucky, really thought I'd done enough distance to keep it live after leaving it running on my first stop I took the plunge and turned it off outside the motor factors when stocking up on Pug track rod ends. Tried several bumps to no avail then remembered the leads in the boot and flagged down one of the SC delivery girls, she was in a rush so when it did't fire I set her free and scratched my chin for a bit in a state of ponder. A fella opening up a car lot where I was stranded half on the pavement offered his boost pack thingy which didn't play ball either so at this point I reached for the krook lock that was left in the boot by the PO and belted the starter which slowly chugged into life and did what it should, problem diagnosed then.Bit grumpy at the prospect of most likely needing a new starter I was happy to find that being a smallish car and me being on the long side allows starter belting and key ignition key turning to be a one man operation which is (VERY) useful but it's never not going to induce love between spouse and new old car purchase in times of financial crisis so after going through the connections and checking contacts... I plucked it out with thoughts of stripping it and seeing if it could be sorted for free. After a gentle prodding about I decided that the possibility for doing more harm than good by engaging full dismantlement was high and it was easier to hit it than push the car so it just got greased up and refitted. Maybe it just wanted to see the light of day as it's been grand ever since, long may it last.Flushed with success I went for the wobbly rod end nextOther side just as badMuch better and now no (well, far less) horrid clonking Out for a drive to the cash and carry for fuel and it became more noisy on route, the next day it was kind of like* a v8 with lairy cam which was quite amusing though prompted a look underneath.Poor pic alert!BuggerI drove the kids to school this morning and then returned home for some car time, mostly spent cleaning up a Suzuki for sale though I did find time to fix* the exhaust too. Proper bodgy repair with random metal (old tool box) coated with zorst paste held on with a old exhaust clamp and a carb clip from a dirt bike a jubilee stock was low. I'll see how it fairs and may/may not apply the welder or new exhaust at a later date.I have a hatred of plastic trims so have binned off the remaining 3, the black steels are pretty clean though I did try these on for size at the front and I think I like.Bolts and spacer/shaved calliper will be required but it would be nice to see the slots in action rather than in the back of the garage. Looks like cats and dog in the morning so I'll probably go all soft and use this rather than the bike. *Re edited for tired post writing.
