Reason for sale is simple; I've found something newer that I fancy and I feel someone else could do it justice.

Build progress and lots of photo's here

The good.

I'm the second owner of the car.

74,000 miles.

Full service at it's last MOT

It's MOTed until Novermber and I've just put six months tax on it.

The interior is in very good condition and would come out mint after a good hover.

It drives really well and is super reliable, it's never let me down

It's good on fuel and very comfortable.

It comes with a heap of spares, from memory there is a bonnet, various pieces of trim, spare rear lights, grills and a bunch of other stuff.

The car comes with loads of history, original booklet, old MOT's, bill of sale and a repair manual.

The body is solid for a 30 year old jap, the sills and underneath are solid. The arches are solid too.

The bad points.

The body work looks rough, simply because I tried to sort out some rough filler work that had been done previously and never got around to getting the car painted. The car does have some surface rust around the arches and in the corner of the the windscreen. The rain gutters also have a bit of surface rust but is nowhere near rotting through.

I had also (poorly) filled some holes in the body work where some side trim has come off, I thought it better to fill them in than have them rust. There was a hole in the bottom of the nearside wing that I have filled.

The nearside rear window also doesnt wind up or down, I think something on the winder may have broken inside the door?

The car will come on its original steel wheels as I've sold the BMW wheels and most would prefer it that way and comes with all the spares, the spares would probably fit in the back if you fold the back seats down.

All in all its a genuine little car that someone needs to take on and give some love.

I'm looking for about £700 for it, just to claim back some of the money it owes me. Serious offers will be concidered. I'm offering it here first before it goes on eBay. I will be sorry to see her go as the car has bundles of character and gets a lot of attention, I just feel like I'm slowly ruining it when someone could be making her good again.

I'd like her gone as soon as, I'm have my ear chewed by the neighbours and the local banger racers have thier eyes on it!

I see you've dropped this to £600 on the other side. I must say, a slap of any old white paint on those grey bits would smarten it up no end for your sale pics. If you were a bit nearer, I'd be considering taking this on. GLWS mate, at 600 it's not too dear.

600 gribbets seems very reasonable to me, will take a little while to sell though i reckon due to its obscurity

This was taken hastily yesterday, the white doesnt match and is quite patchy but it looks a lot more presentable. The car is still very usable and is a joy to drive, it just needs somebody to give it a bit of love and tidy her up.

Needs to go! Bundle of spares to go with it. Give it a little tlc on the outside and it'll reward you with comfort, reliability and smiles per gallon. Perfect summer project (if it arrives!)

Back to standard form!

Bit late I guess, but did you try sticking it on OJC?

Posted

I've just stuck a link on OJC this afternoon. Hopefully someone over there can rescue the Honda! Thanks for the tip.

It's on eBay. Last resort before its sold to the yobs around the corner who are gunna have five minutes of fun with it and race it. I really don't want to have to do it but the cash is needed. Someone rescue it!

Well I hope someone can step in at the last minute then because the cynic in me says that's the last we'll see of it.

I've always wanted a Quintet for the obscurity factor but I don't have the spare cash or space having only just bought another low mileage Datsun. My heart says go for it and sell the Sunny on but my head says that would be madness when what I've got is a near pristine car that needs no work and what I'll get might take me years to get to the condition I want it and I simply can't justify that especially as I have two other cars needing finances/work on them.

A shame being only single figures left and these could be extinct within a couple of years (Howmanyleft shows 1 Auto on SORN and 2 Manuals licensed for 2011) but I don't think there are enough nutters like me around to want one badly enough :(

So much want, yet so little money, space and time. If this gets ruined I think I may cry. Surely we should set up a charity to create some sort of Autoshite reserve for these old endangered cars. An area, possibly just north of Birmingham where they can roam freely, chugging majestically across the land scape, safe from banger racers, pikeys, vw enthusiasts* and other scum and villainy who may try to do them harm.

Support the WAF. -world Autoshite fund-

Just £5 a month can save this lightly dilapidated Honda quintet from an oaf with an obsession with crashing into things.

Give now. See teletext page 249 for further details.

Do you mind me asking how much the banger lads are offering for it? Tell me to f*** off if you like, its fair enough. I need this like I need a hole in the head and £500 is simply too much for me to spend on something I don't need. but I would pay more for it than a scrapyard and could guarantee it leaves my custody in better nick than it arrived in. You could hang onto the tax.

I'd consider bunging a few quid into a pot but I'm always a bit dubious as to how something like that would work. Who looks after it, who does the work, who drives it, insures it?

The only thing I could say is that at least it would get a stay of execution until someone can stump up the full amount (which given a damn good eBay selling session and a month or so I probably could).

It seems odd for us all to get dewey eyed over a bland early 80s Japanese hatch but that's not the point, when they've all gone there's no turning back.

I'd love to see this saved and would make an offer if I had the cash. THe pot idea sounds nice, but can't see it working, especially with the distances involved

The banger boys have offered £550 as it is. I'll wait until the eBay auction ends and get back to you mr x Bol. When I've retired from this plumbing and heating malarkey I'm going to buy some land and make a sanctuary for old cars to rest in, where then can be free from abuse and scrapping. Then again by the time I'm at that stage I'll be looking at rescuing mk4 Mondeos :/ The pot idea is great in theory but could cause problems amongst the investors (ever see that Simpsons episode when bart milhouse and the geeky kid when three's on a comic?) Thanks for the support guys, I really hope the car finds a nice new home, perhaps there will be a miracle on eBay? We can only keep our fingers crossed.

It's still here...... C'mon! You want it. You know you do. It'll make you happy.

Seems I've bought a car that I can't shift! Anyone?

Its a common problem at the mo. There is no market for old shite cars. It would have sold in a shot 2 years ago. Blame the Greeks.

I think the options are to either keep hold of it until the markets pick up and we all have money again to buy shite, or sell for pennies. Obviously you might get lucky but its looking difficult to shift a lot of stuff at the moment.

This. If you think a Quintet's hard to sell, try attempting to get shot of a 3-litre Laguna... I'm hoping the Grand Cherokee will prove slightly easier to sell, being an economical* diesel version.

I would love to make an offer, but can't all the time I have the Bluebird. Although I appreciate that "I would if it weren't for" posts are of zero practical use

Posted

The fact that Eveyone ha tightened their belts probably is the only reason I haven't been able to sell her. Good luck with the 3 litre gooner as well, that'll be tough! I'm taking her to bremore house classic car show this weekend to try generate some interest. If nothing happens there she's going in the garage to ride out the rainy conditions and equally miserable economy. I'm determined not to let her die just yet.

Posted

Why not take it to Retro Rides Gathering?

Posted

I expect a lot of people just assume that any spares will be like hen's teeth (to be fair, body panels probably are) so would rather just have something a bit 'safer'. Shame really, as I doubt that would ever really be an issue.

Anyone want to buy my Bluebird? If this is still available once that's gone I would be genuinely very interested, but nothing i can do for the moment
