H0LA,

Just back from a week in Tenerife.

There are still quite a few old cars kicking around, although I was surprised to see that these were mainly Opels with a few Fords spotted too.

I did see quite a few Renault 5 MK2's and I was happy to see that there are still good numbers of Seat Marbellas.

Here's what I managed to catch:

Dont know why this has the new-money Spanish plate?

IMAG0262.jpg

Ascona 2.0i in non Irmscher/ Cav Turbo Slabs shocker

IMAG0267.jpg

Corsa doesnt look to have 'looned' around recently.

Recently resprayed 5 was mint inside and out. What a Honey!

IMAG0264.jpg

Corsa was a long way from Majorca!

IMAG0265.jpg

Nice Omega in daily use.

IMAG0266.jpg

Few of these still around, most were in better nick than this but this was the only one that was parked up.

This was mint!

Old bloke on crutches was trying to thwart this spottage attempt.

These were definitely the large car of choice in TF. Lots of the older shape ones around too. This one was mint.

Corolla - not seen one of these in a while.

Forgot about these entirely. There was a hatchback one over the road, looked a bit bigger, might have been an early 90s Galant.

Johnny Foreigner. This was owned by one of the waiters at our hotel. Saw him getting out of it, cleaning off any dirty marks and then checked that all the doors were locked about 3 times lol!

Anyway, it was a good holiday, shame there werent more old Renaults, Seats and Citroens though!

Great spottage! I forgot just how right the original Renner 5 looks.

Love the Ascona GT; but what the hell is going on with the rusty bonnet vent on that Marbella? Corrosive air?

Yeah I was a bit flummoxed by that one too. None of the others had the same problem!

Perhaps the owner has a flatulence problem and has wired the ventilation system to suck instead of blow?

I was there in March and noticed they like their old motors. At the weekend I saw a group of around 20 Minis from the hotel balcony (heard them coming :) )

I was more interested in the sun-bleached Renault 5. A combination of 14th floor and shit zoom means it's faaar awaaay.

Dacia Logan in Tiede National Park. Looked miserable inside too.

Driving on these mountain roads makes you want to vomit after a while!

There were oodles of those Logans about.

I looked longingly up at the mountain villages there and imagined everybody driving around in wobbly Seat Rhondas and Emelba Chatos.

There was some shonky old stuff about in the mountains, but nothing to top this spot from the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus a few years back (which was in pretty good nick)

+1, that's the cleanest Mk1 R5 I've seen since my geography teacher bought a new one in 1983!

Someone posted a relevant joke on my Farcebook page tonight,

Due to the financial crisis in the Euro zone and Spain in particular, the IMF has announced that Tenerife has had to be downgraded.

With immediate affect it will now be known as Fiverife.

as you were.....

2006 (note Sierra Ghia Wheel from the 2.9 Estate that used to keep it company)

2012 (yesterday)

Been off the road since 1999. Now that the bonnet skin has rotted off you can see the 2.0 pezzer engine.

This has only been off the road since 2009!

Check out the rear window frame rot!

That's it, unless you like T2 Mercedes minibuses, which you probably dont!
