Still Pearl Harbour isn't due to start till next spring so it will stay unbutchered for a while yet. I have no problem with people modifying their cars but it seems like maybe there is a perverse pleasure in cutting up something very orignal :?

I'm a complete ignoramus as far as this kind of modification goes. Will lowering the wagon in this way have actually improved the handling substantially or just made it less useful for trips to B&Q ?

I think they just like the crisp Bertone styling.

Having given up on the Espero as near exctint, I happened upon a very clean example last week in Metallic Green, and, as we speak, I am admiring the pin-sharp lines of this superb Metallic Grey example that has been parked outside my place for what could well be the whole day!

This is live and happening now!

Bloody hell! Don't let him leave! In fact, get it in as stock, then you might be admiring the frameless-style blacked out pillars for weeks.

I don’t think anyone has yet mentioned the twin indicators per side on those Esperos, marvellous. I like the pointless duplication of things at the rear of cars (one reason why the Camry pleases me), at night cars that have twin tail lights always catch my eye. On both my 240K and 160J SSS I converted them so both lights each side operated as tail and brake, not just one or the other. Very important.

Getting back on topic slightly, I did borrow a 180B estate of the 810 variety for a week or so, a scruffy old thing Datman had. I was even brave enough to park it outside Wimbledon Stadium complete with NOS Datsun parts inside it. Sadly, but somewhat inevitably, a few months later it did get pinched and was believed to have ended up on the track. My recollection of it was that it had a bouncy ride (leaf springs on the back) and it was low-geared with the standard 4-speed.

Oddly my earlier 180B estate (610 model) had a much more controlled ride, and IMO looked much better.

If it's pointless duplication you're after look no further than the pre-GM SAAB 900. Some of them had reversing lights on the front.

What? Did the sidelights turn on when reversing? With my 900 I noticed the sidelights went on when I touched the brakes, but I thought that was some kind of quirky electrical fault.
