Heavy oil smoker

Anyone's here interested in old Fatha BS6's now redundant Peugeot 405 non-turbot oil belcher? it's a 1994 car which has been in his custodianship since 2002, since when I've looked after it with engine oil/filter changes every 6 months, mileage now just over 100,000, 9 months MOT, cambelt changed last year, has a towbar too! (GR8 4 tow'in very slowly). It has loads of use left in it yet, the only slight downside are a few bits of rust on the drivers door (none elsewhere), and yes, it has a Bosch fuel injection pump (GR8 4 burnin chip oilz). Fatha would like £350 for it, and it has to go now due to not being able to drive a manual car anymore, and has hence acquired a Renner Cliod auto.

Thats a beauty! Wish I had a use for it.Replace that with a clio auto? How cruel it is to grow old!

Does it have power steering?I would quite like to try one of these non-turbo diesel 405s, preferably in estate form to make it even more miserable.I had a Rover 218D with the same engine before and it was pretty vile to drive until you were up to speed, after the painful acceleration it was fine though - would sit at 90MPH all day.

Yo Milford, I have the 1994 405 brochure to hand and it does have PAS.Performance figures from the factory are: Top speed 102mph, 0-62mph in 18.6 seconds ( - that's 6 seconds slower than the turbot), but 40mpg on the Urban Cycle...that's pretty impressive.

Does that mean the estate version does 60mph in closer to 20 seconds? Yikes!I'm amused that Volkswagen offers a naturally aspirated 2.0 diesel in its Golf SDi, it has about the same power as these old XUD9s! They should put it in the Passat for all those misers who used to buy 405 1.9Ds.

I mistakenly ended up with a MkIV Golf SDi a few years back. When working in europe, we all got company cars through Hertz in Nice. We all decided that the Golf TDi pretty much suited our needs, so a large order was placed with the contract hire company, I was on holiday at the time, so Hertz rang my office and explained that they had no stock of the TDi in black (which I had ordered) so they would send an alternative. I presumed that they meant colour, not car!So to my collegues amusement, who were all ripping about in uber fast Golf TDi's, I ended up with an SDi (Slow Diesel Injection) for the summer, given that i had approx 2000km per week to cover, it was not the nicest experience. My company loved me though as my fuel card bill was half the cost of everyone elses!!

Lolz. I can imagine a lardass MkV Golf SDI being a pretty grim driving experience. I've driven a Mk4 TDI 115bhp with the six speed 'box several times, that's a nice little mover.Anyways, people in the know tell me the 71bhp non-turbot 405 is absolutely fine for day-to-day use, and is generally capable of 5-10mpg more than the turbot. I reckon I'd get 60 to the gallon out of one in daily use. Note also that BS6's example has the original wheeltrims, which are like rocking-horse shit. My wife has already put me out of the running for this one!

It certainly does! it drives nicely in an 'I'm not in any particular hurry to get anywhere' kind of way, and in Fatha's time of custodianship has NEVER failed to proceed, or needed anything other than routine servicing, I just hope it's replacement is as good

Bullsh1t aside that 405 will run quicker and cleaner with some vege oil. I had a 1.9XUD engined Shit-or-run BX estate and it went like an effing rocket after a week or so on Aldi's finest.
