and couldn't find an old car photo thread buried in all the shit.

So, here are two old pictures I've scanned in of an old MG. In one shot, another example of shite is visible. I do hope this is a good enough reason for posting.

I await threads starting "Three old photos", "Four old photos", "No old photos, but has anyone seen a photo" and a thread based entirely on google images searches for photos of old photos. Followed by someone kicking off because the photos aren't what they deem to be the correct old photos.

I think so, yup.

Here's a pic of a Commer (I'm hiding in the pram), so the thread title is incorrect.

Any idea what MG it is Pete? I was thinking TC, but the side-on shot has left me doubting that. I'm quite crap on pre-1950 stuff.

It does look like one of the T series, probably a D with the depth of the wings at the front. What throws it off is the roof line and what looks like a glass rear window rather than a plastic flexible jobby.

Can't be a TD. They had smaller wheels (disc rather than wires - shock, horror!) and independent front suspension.

Not got a clue, Ian. The only MGs I really like are estates with Mustang V8s, although I have a spot of fondness for the 50s Magnette, but can't explain why.

Pretty certain that MG is a YT and was really rare - less than a thousand built from memory. I wonder if it still survives.

Can I also just add that the picture of the horse running towards an oncoming train was a pleasant and unexpected bonus to the YT.

Good suggestions. Cheers Les and AP.

It doesn't show up with that plate but it would be nice if it has survived.

I think Les is right and I am wrong as the ZA had wires and the YT solid wheels.........

Do you have any pictures of a horse running towards a Proton ?

Posted

Aye. T'is a YT. I should have known that. I have photographed one myself... (it didn't have the roof up though to give me some sort of feeble excuse!). They are indeed super rare.

how cool is that, to have a picture of your very first vehicle (pram)

if you have photos of all your cars you would probably be only one of a very elite few who could do a proper "from the cradle to the grave" of the vehicles you have owned.

Yeah, when I said it's definitely a YT, what I meant is it's definitely NOT a YT...

Does appear to be a VA. Well identified, folks. One of 564 built between Feb '37 and September '39, so a rare old beastie at the best of times.
