Shite in Miniature II

I found a tiny little Hot Wheels Honda City Turbo II in Tesco:

Now that's bloody ace and will probably get scene taxed to hell and back, so I've picked one up. Terrible VFM based on size, but a proper oddball model. Besides, I like quirky Hondas.

I managed to get one of those and the Skyline as well. The Datsun 620 pick up is also a good subject. What they all need though is the awful scene mods shaving off, suspension raised and some much narrower wheels fitting.

New Vanguards are disappearing over my budget horizon like scalded rats, so if they're now regarded as a value range there's no hope of anything else joining my collection!

In fairness, I'm not sure Vanguards are regarded as a 'budget' range. Certainly Hornby don't think of it thus.

I was annoyed tbh that the 'budget' Maxichamps weren't budget at all thanks to our shit currency, so didn't really rival Vanguards

The continuing hopeless value of the £ / Brexit is part of the story but also the importers are too greedy and have a massive margin which doesn't help. If they dropped their margin to a sensible level then people like me would stock a lot more of them and therefore sell a lot more. But they won't.

I remember when Vanguards came out they were only about £10-12. Lledo at that point were still catering for the Werther's Original crowd with the now very collectible and valuable* 'Days Gone By' range.

I cant remember the last time I bought a brand new 1/43rd scale model. The price is simply not worth it when a decent, possibly preowned 1/18 is only about £20 more.

I rarely buy 1/76 buses now either as they are simply too expensive. Model fairs and bus rallies are a good place stil though.

Looking back, most of my recent model car purchases have been from here, with a few from a Facebook page and the remainder from TKMaxx when their 1/24 scales are reduced to clear.

CMC - there are insider rumours that this stand has left little change out of 80,000 Euros, not counting the inventory.

Note that they are still dragging around that DS21 they show since last year, without releasing it.

Those Minichamps 917K models do look like 1:12. On the sheet I have it states the only 1:12 to be a handful of road cars and Williams F1 car. Odd.
