Shite in Miniature II

In episode 4, Corgi 1/36 models seem to have been finding me in recent years (like the last 20 or so) without any real effort on my part.  I was much too old to have them as toys in my youth, simply because they didn't exist until I was 20 (ish).  There are some that didn't make it into this pic...

Film and television cars account for a chunk of my collection, as do models of cars I've owned; sadly I think most of them are still in boxes in my lockup.  As you can see, I'm not exactly well-endowed with display space!

These have been some violently-edited highlights.  I hope you've enjoyed them.

That's so shallow a scratch on the surface, that it'll polish out with a hanky and some saliva.  I've been collecting all my life.  I'm now downstairs, in a room with FOUR cabinets loaded with 1/18 models, and as alluded to, there are loads I haven't unpacked in the five years I've been living here...

Eddy I had no idea you had such a collection, absolutely Fantastic. Nice ti see an eclectic mix, basically a bit of whatever you fancied at the time, exactly like me!

All I've got is a handful of 1/43 resins, two or three boxes full of old Lesney, Corgi, Matchbox etc (all old Made in U.K. Stuff) and another big tub full of similar foreign made stuff.

It's all sat up in the loft with the exception of the resins. It's been up there years since I was a little kid.

Dan, at least you've still got them, and didn't just throw them away/give them away/sell them.  Once you have your own place, that you can furnish how you wish, you'll find you have room for them all of a sudden ;)

Iain, I think you've summed me up pretty well there.  As for the quantities... well if Junkman hadn't prompted me, I might not have bothered with the photos, and the secret of my front bedroom might have remained a secret.

Some more chod from the Aldi drawers.

The day toys became boring:

Matchbox, mostly from that childhood:

The green DAF came in a package with a little forklift and some pallet you could load onto or unload from the lorry.

I stacked them with sugar cubes and loaded and unloaded away until my mother saw what I was doing.

These are not from my childhood. They were only released in the 90s:

I have an unopened set, too. Somewhere.

Corgi Juniors and Rockets:

The horseboxed horse survived, the OLLI evidently not.

Majorette:

Genuine Alabama Beach Finds! There is still white sand stuck to them.

Budgie Renault lorry, I think it had a real fabric canopy when new.

My only remaining Husky tat:

Revell Lowriders:

Ertl Dick Tracey set:

Not so shiny shit from China:

A lone Lone Star Flyer:

Note how nicely it is executed with everything opening. No wonder they went bust.

Some Racing Champions Sprint Cars:

Now this is a true exotic. It's actually a Polistil, believe it, or not. Hence it must have beena gift from my Aunt who lived in Italy for forty years.

These are sold trackside at the stockcar races:

A relatively large (larger than 1/43) Ideal toy, presumably a gift from my Aunt in America:

No idea what these are:

I bought them at a boot sale.

Where do you get those stacking things for the 175s? They would revolutionize my loft!

If you find any, please let me know immediately.

Didn't they come as part of the carry cases?

Posted

I first saw them at a swap meet25 years ago and have tried to get them ever since. Traders seem to have a lot of them so that would be an awful lot of carrycases to acquire and cannibalise. I reckon they are actually intended for some other use but I dont know what.

Not sure about the belisha beacon and traffic light, Junkman but the road sign came with some Spot-On cars.    I had one with my MG 1100.

Pretty sure they were originally only in the carry cases.   Although it does seem that are a lot around, many of the carry cases met an early demise due to the vinyl ripping across the joints - they were pretty flimsy especially when loaded up with 48 miniature die-casts.   On the other hand the trays seem to be almost indestructible......

This.

The cases didn't survive, the racks did.

But why only boot sale and toy fair vendors have them in abundance is beyond me.

I was about to suggest those!  Against them is the lack of dividers, but OTOH you can fit bigger models in them.  They also tend to be available free if you ask nicely.

I use old shoe boxes and plastic lidded boxes in the loft for them but it’s quite dry up there so they should be ok.

Seeing Junkman's pictures reminded me of my collection of Majorette (Dodge?)Safari Pickups.I got a bit carried away with these  :-D

Nice collections there chaps. I was looking and going 'got it, got it', lol. I have been sorting out my stuff for the first time since i moved into my house getting on for three years ago. Some of it I had forgotten about, some I wondered why on earth I had bought them and some were great to find again. On the sad side it looks as if some have gone missing over the years, taken by persons unknown, possibly by people who are friends. I'm sure the removal blokes haven't helped themselves. My model display room is coming along nicely; just waiting for my good mate to build the last four cabinets. I'm trying to decide what to put in them, think one will have racing saloons, the other three will most likely have more American stuff in them as I have way too many of those! Decisions, decisions.

Mr Junkman, the Budgie Renault lorry did indeed come with a canvas top but they are hard to find. I bought a mint one from Ebay earlier this years but alas no top.
