Great cars - I have an idea... there is a car production plant for sale in Holland for 1 euro, lets buy it and make some new ones. :D

Do you want another one? My 44 is about to go up for sale. 6 months tax and full MOT?

You mean they built an Imp with a CVT transmission?

Refresh my memory - what became of the fastback Daf on the AS banner?

Um, they built them? It's not a true fastback, more a slopey coupe.

I've driven a 33, and thought it was super-quirky and fab. I've been a passenger in a 55 and I didn't like it at all. I reckon a 44 (flat-twin engine, but 55-style looks) is the ultimate personally.

I like Dafs. A neighbour of mine had a succession of them in the 80s, mostly 66 estates. The last one she had was a 66 coupe which I'm told they still have stashed away somewhere.

Ahhhh, the original - the Daf 55 Marathon Coupe. Lasted for a year, went for it's MOT, came back with a 2 page list of faults and a quote for at least £1,200 to get her back on the road! As she only cost £230 to buy it was with sad regret that she was resold via ebay. If I remember rightly we got more than we paid for her, though.

The more I see these the higher they creep up my want list!

My mum and gran drove one of these from Dundee to Warsaw in the late 60's - really must try and see if she's still got any pictures, would be superb if the car was still around although I suspect that's highly unlikely.

Hillmanimp - swmbo may have to hide my wallet when yours comes up for sale, it'll be a strong temptation!

My little 33 has been doing sterling service during the recent cold spell! Although the demister's not as quick as I'd like, the variomatic acts as a self-locking differential, so it's great in snow! Here's a photo of it in the drive, lurking under a couple of days of snow. It has always started, after days in the snow, even though it has a 6 volt electric system. Very tough little cars!

Same here, Andrew. Took my 66 out recently in the snow and was completely outperforming most modern cars around me. Plus, where others were getting pelted by feral groups of snow kids, the DAF just got astonished/admiring glances!

Give in to the Daf love people. I've had a 44 (for a short while). a 33 for a slightly longer short while and now have a 46 saloon and a 66GL estate. 44's are great. I might be interested as well!!!

Tell me more!

My 55 marathon saloon ...now owner by Oone was one of the best snow cars I have ever driven. Light skinny tyres and twin belts gave it LSD behaviour. A bit like driving a speedboat

Yep! Excellent band, as far as I can remember them... 'The name comes from a poem by Adrian Henri that mixed an advertisement for a yellow Dutch car with a Wordsworth poem' says wiki.

I found this "somewhere else" on the web. The question is, would you drive it?
