Oltcit - my Story

Talking of real Citroens, imagine if these had been made. Its probably my all-time favourite concept car, and I suspect every one of us would now own one. In beige.

And it still exits. Somewhere I have an original Velizy design centre 35mm slide of this.

I have no idea if he's on here but years ago, 15 maybe, there was a young chap who hill climbed a Visa GTi at the Pestalotzi Hillclimb in Sedlescombe, Sussex.

(Mate worked for Caterham. They had run a comp with The Times for a seasons racing and track stuff aside this was part of it.

Matesjob at the weekends was to deliver the Caterham to events

What an awful job... )

Anyway Visaman was with his Mum and he binned it and rolled it (not with Ma in the car, silly!) Not sure how they got home to be fair!

I left it for an hour so he could get his pooh together and went and had a word with him as my neighbour had one for sale, this was 15 years ago and he couldn't believe his luck so they must be rare now, 15 year later.

Actually that is lovely, just as it is. I wouldn't go near it in beige!

Did I just call a French car lovely????????

The C-60 is utterly bonkers. Here it is on the Citroen Car Club stand at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2009. Amongst novelties such as hydraulic suspension etc, it also has a cooling fan on top of the flat-four engine, driven by a pulley on the front of the engine. 90 degree belts FTW!

my 305 had that. the engine was transverse but they wanted a cooling fan on the front. So they ran a belt off of the crank and used two idler pulleys to make it go through 90 degrees and run a fan

Amazing to see an Oltcit in the UK. Genuine Oltcit too - that's what they were on the Hungarian market.

How many Axels made it over here? Only seen the low-quality pics of 2 C-regs on Citroenet.

Top work! These are getting rare even in Romania - and the pick up version is practically extinct. They also made a factory prototype 5-door, convertible (one of which still exists) and 4x4.

Yup, my 304 was the same. I think having the fan on top of the engine gets more shite points though...

Never knew that!

The Chevrolet Corvair and a similar set up too, but for added shits and giggles made one of the idlers the alternator by the looks of it..

Watch this space, there's a possibility of another Oltcit making it's way from Transylvania to Shropshire at some point

Now that’s how to tantalise Oltcit fanciers, go on give us a bit more.

My Honda Z600s also had a similar arrangement of 90 degree belts too.

Will hopefully be able to tell you a bit more soon.......
