FS: Peugeot 309 1.3 GL - £220?

Indeed. Only the shut lines are actually red. It's bordering on faded terracotta.

Have now got it advertised on Gumtree - which increasingly seems packed full of cheap old chod, though the search is a bit limited - especially on locality (there are two location options in Wales, Swansea and Cardiff. No other part of Wales exists it seems!)

Do they even have sex outside the family?

I've no idea!

To bring us back on topic, as I really like the Welsh and the baby I saw this morning didn't have webbed fingers, I stated at the start that I couldn't add cash to an exchange. Well, I think I probably can add a bit to the mix if I ignore the list of to do for the Citroens for a bit...

However, I am only interested in a 4x4. Thinking Fronterror, Terra-no, Niva say Niva Again (if I can find one) or even a little 'zuki of some sort. Also pondering the Discovery, as I'm addicted to rusty sheds.

Posted

My Jeep will be up for grabs soon, but I don't want another Pug.

Posted

Why not convert the 309 to 4x4 using the floorpan and drivetrain of a BX or 405 4x4? I'm sure it could be done quite easily.

Posted

^^^ I'm sure that will be a piece of cake, and when done will be a perfect alternative to a Discovery or whatever.

Yes, I can confirm it's a piece of piss. I did it with my arse and a basic Halfords tool kit, yesterday. It only took an hour.

Then you can take the front driveshafts out to make it a rwd drift weapon

I think the best option for an RWD 309 would be to attach its body panels to a Hillman Hunter.

Posted

Better still would be to put a VAG TDi engine in it then discover the head gasket has gone.

Ian: Have you tried the FCF to advertise the car? Not been on there in ages but there was a fair bit of love for 309s and the like a while back.

Posted

I will not be converting the car to 4x4. It would be disappointing as the hippies wouldn't know that they had to throw eggs at me and blame me for the end of world.

Cav - that's a good shout. I'll give it a whirl.

Incidentally, noticed yesterday that the speedo isn't actually dropping to 0. It's sticking at 20 and then seems to be reading about 20mph over. Bloody French cars.

I mean, hoorah for French cars! Especially ones built in Coventry.

Posted

I suspect your 309 was built in France - the Mk 1s were UK-built and the Mk 2s were increasingly (if not all) built in France. Check the VIN - if it starts SDB it was built at Ryton, and if it doesn't it wasn't... :)

Posted

VIN starts VF, so there you go! A genuine French French car. Thanks. I never knew that!

Still for sale. Getting itchy fingers for something all-wheel drive so need this gone really. £300 anyone?

Posted

I'm not really sure why you sold the Range Rover to be honest. The Land Rover, fair enough, being a petrol V8 it was always going to be a bit thirsty, but surely the diesel Range Rover was perfect for you?

Posted

Dunc (whitevanman) was looking to sell the Taliban spec Mk1 Shogun NOT PAJERO LWB V6 I sold him some years back - he's always up for swapping some horrible old chod - not local to you mind but you could meet in Lancs I suppose.... :D

MANUAL box as well - moon roof - GR9 4 LPG launching at Blackhawk Helicopters and lots of space under the back seat for Terry Waite

Posted

Dicky - the only reason I sold the Rangie was the non working heater. I was seriously strapped for cash at the time so it had to go. I do regret selling it. It ticked many boxes.

Scoots - a Mk1 Paj may be of interest. They're meant to be pretty much bombproof, well, aside from the rotting thing (but all 4x4s seem to do that!). My budget pot has grown slightly, although I'm still talking cheap shite 4x4 here!

Posted

Right. I'm offering an Autoshite exclusive discount. £275 and it's yours. I've clocked up 200 miles in it today, so it'll more than get you home.

This offer is limited time only as next week, I'm going to risk insanity and bung it on Ebay...

Posted

Looks a dam decent buy this, shame my budget wouldn't stretch to a 6th car really :(

GLWTS, the bay despite the potential for grief should give you a little more profit though. 99p start and no reserve has never failed me :D

Posted

Sod it. It's now on the 'bay. Not sold anything that way since the CX, and that went ok. I've got an itch that needs scratching and the Peugeot is acting like a plaster cast.

Stupid me. I added to the description earlier so the auction has disappeared from the search, just in time for Sunday prime time!

Currently watching a Jeep Grand Cherokee which is at £450 with no bids and 3hrs to go...

Interesting. I always assumed my F-reg mk1 GLX was nailed together in Coventry but, like Ian's, the VIN started with VF. So, the ex-Simca/Talbot plant at Poissy, then?

Posted

good luck with it Ian, I suspect one of the reasons why it didn't shift (apart from the horrible time of year) is you living so far west you trip over spitoons!

You need to ship your chod to the midlands for peddling

Posted

I have considered that Scoots. The location does put people off I think. I reckon the Scimitar might have generated a profit if I'd sold it in the Midlands. Daft thing is, it's not really the back of beyond. 2hrs from the Midlands.

Aye, Poissy it is... Ryton 309 production was moved over to France so the 405 (as a "buy British!" company car contender - a status which the 309 never really achieved) could be built at Ryton instead of in France (UK-built with many British-sourced components therefore more fleets would buy it, sales increase, profits go up etc was the theory).

Some of those 405s were built as LHD vehicles to be exported too, so Ryton was very much part of the PSA Plan at that time rather than just making "local" cars for RHD markets (some of the Ryton 309s were sold new in New Zealand, for example).

ridiculously difficult to get to mid wales though. You could probably get to Bangor from the midlands in that time though!

Posted

Why would anyone not want to go to mid Wales?

The 309 is just a bonus. :D

Posted

Mid Wales isn't that hard to get to. From the A5, A483 and A55 it doesn't take much time at all and further south doesn't seem to be a problem either.

Indeed. Wales is quite skinny at this point and the scenery is mind-bendingly good.

By the way, I thank anyone who may have had a little flutter on it already.

Posted

I still seem to have this. Second highest bidder has now gone all quiet on me as well. Anyone fancy it for the £220 it was meant to sell for? I've cancelled the insurance on it now so I'm going to have to either cash in the tax or put it on my classic policy (for yet another admin fee). I don't really want to go down that road.

Posted

I'm shocked this hasn't sold, there must be someone out there looking for a cheap car.

Have you tried gumtree? I found it shifted a stubborn Corolla within hours of putting up an advert. We had most the eastern block phoning up to buy it for the next two days . I'd tried selling it on ebay before and had no interest at all.
