FS: Peugeot 309 1.3 GL - £220?

The Autoshite New Year Sales continue, with the ex-Minimad5/Retro80sboy Peugeot 309 now available.

Has 120k on the clock, though the clock has stopped - I think due to a dead cable. Bodily very good, though paint is scruffy. Has the large sunroof, 5-speed gearbox and such modern convenience features as opening doors and windows. Uses the Simca-based OHV engine, so very, very simple. No PAS. Does need the exhaust system sorting as the current system is a bit of a hotch-potch. Is holding together, but is blowing. That's not too much bother at the moment as there's MOT until 26th July 2012 and, from what I remember, a decent slice of tax as well.

I'm asking £350. Swaps are possible, but I CAN add cash because I'm not sensible. But not that much of it.

I can't really stress enough how much work Minimad did to this car while he owned it. It has a brand new carburettor, new clutch, replacement rear beam and probably a fair bit more.

Not my thing I'm afraid, but have a bump in honour of the BX rescue fund. Surely those 1990-tastic white trimz must be tickling someone's trousers?

GLWTS :)

It is indeed. I was checking the route for Raid Sportsmans Arms. I'd owned the Pug for about 5 minutes when that shot was taken!

Didn't all old cheap cars die in the scrappage scheme?

Seriously though have a free bump so the moaners that cry about the lack of cheap cars can put their money where their mouth is.

P.S.

Don't put it on retro rides !

Hope this stays 'in the community' :)

Work done includes:

New Headgasket, Valve stem oil seals and the like (All done by SCTSH_ANDY)

New Rear beam and mouting bushes (Fitted by myself and SCTSH_ANDY) - New brake lines were placed on the beam before fitting

New Driveshafts (Yes both sides)

New Carb'

New Clutch, Pressure plate and release bearing

New rear silencer (although was "adapted" as it didn't fit very good)

New Trackrod Ends

New Airfilter + Service

The starter motor was also reconditioned 2 weeks before i swapped / sold it to Mr Dolly' , so is practically brand new.

There may be other stuff, but i can't remember

Ian, are you selling the "stuff" i left in the back with it ? - as that may help the sale.

I'm sure he's already smoked that!

Ah yes. I forgot the 'stuff'. Memory seems a bit iffy...

The stuff actually consists of bits of 309, including handbrake cables and other things that haven't yet been removed, including a flat cap. (sorry Mark!)

Hmm I had one of these many years ago and loved it.

Could be tempted for this, but would need to get shut of one of the discoverys first.....

A friend of mine is looking for exactly this kind of mingebag motoring. There may be a slight issue with location as he's in Croydon, but I'm sure a way could be found.

Do you have any idea as to whether it would be possible to get classic insurance for it? He was abroad for a couple of years and doesn't have any NCD to his name.

Edit: According to the Footman James quick quote, it looks like classic ins would indeed be possible. I'll talk to him tomorrow and see if he's interested (which he bloody should be).

Croydon? Blimey. That's a trek from here, as I well know! I'm sure the Peugeot would be up for it though.

Posted

I've spoken with him and he does sound very much up for it. Told him to come to the forum and have a look at the thread and pics.

He needs to check a couple of things re his work and should have an answer by tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

Actually, I'm quite fancying a swap here. I've got to go to Cornwall next month and rather rely on something I already own, it might be fun to liven it up (like my Croydon trip in November) by getting my hands on something random and new. What've you got?

My mate had a look at the pics and thought that it's "a bit of a wreck", presumably because of the flat paint.

Apparently, he is thinking of buying something at an auction together with his housemate's cousin who does a bit of trading on the side. How very sensible!

Sorry about that, DW. He normally is quite a down-to-earth guy and I am quite surprised at his reaction TBH.

Posted

S'alright. I'll just keep driving around in this 'wreck' then! Had a go at sealing the sunroof handle today. Time will tell if it worked...

Posted

Bumpage. Sunroof sealed, though the speedometer is wildly over-reading for some reason. Might be that a second-hand binnacle is required.

It's running very well at the moment, but I really need another 4x4, so it's got to go.

Is it wrong to state I'd be very seriously considering this if it weren't for the colour?

Posted

The paint's f*cked. Just buy it and paint it with a roller. I'll knock a few quid off if you do, to leave some budget for paint supplies. Sorted! I quite like the shabby look it currently has...

Oh no, I just mean because it's red, a colour I cannot stand on a car

wear green tinted glasses and your red Pug 309 will miraculously become brown!

It's more orange than red, I assure you.

Indeed. Only the shut lines are actually red. It's bordering on faded terracotta.

Have now got it advertised on Gumtree - which increasingly seems packed full of cheap old chod, though the search is a bit limited - especially on locality (there are two location options in Wales, Swansea and Cardiff. No other part of Wales exists it seems!)

Have you only just discovered that you're in the land that time forgot?

Looks solid but not my type :/

I like Peugeot, but younger ones :)))

Good luck at selling it

Do they even have eletricity outside the cities?

Posted

Ahem. Yes. We do. Almost 100% of the time too. Apparently this wasn't really the case in some parts around here until 1974 though.

Posted

Not yet. Not sure I've ever actually managed to sell a car there to be honest. I've sold four via this site (two Saabs, a Bedford CF and the Rover) which is pretty good going really considering it doesn't even have a For Sale section.

EDIT - That's a lie. I did sell the Bond via RR.
