Liverpool was really derelict in the 80's! Don't know if I preferred it then to the faux brick apartments of today.

Marlborough Road!

I used to love going into Ford hardware when I was a kid. It was my preferred source of TDK 90's.

He sold all sorts of pointless rubbish and could source pretty much anything you needed. There was always a gang of OAPs in there having a brew with the owner and the shop stunk of shoe polish

Post war, Liverpool council pulled down so many lovely old buildings - they should really be prosecuted.

This thread’s a new one to me, that’s my lunchtime sorted…..

In the banger racing photo, amongst the Farinas and usual suspects is the yellow car with white roof a bathtub Taunus?

Martindale and Carlyle when they were Datsun dealers. Note the 120Y owner going in for new trimz!

And before they took on the franchise

Shame there's no 260Z demonstrator outside!

I think they were on Bleasdale Rd. Not sure what's there now.

Delayed reply! Good to see this dealership, I have this scan from 1977:

I think it's where Streetview now shows a Barclays and Poundland?

Would be interested to see a better period photo of this place:

144-156 Prescot Road, which I believe is where Parkfield Motors are/were now based? The showroom still appears to be there.

WTC.

I'm a newb here, but wanted to say thank you for making the not considerable effort of putting all this together.

I see a lot of places there from my youth, and agree with the general view that many changes here aren't for the best. My view is that the overwhelming desire to own a house and 'get on the ladder' has been what has done it for many areas. When I were a lad, the blokes would work and wives would (mostly) stay at home to look after kids, and it was the women who held the fabric of the community. Once the cost of living increased, everyone had to work so communities started to fragment and those around you meant less as you didn't know them.

Post 334, blue star agency is within 50m of where I grew up.

It was better then. There were pubs bloody everywhere :)

Also nice to see the picture of the Merton with St Johns house lurking behind it. I was a civil servant briefly after finishing Uni, and they were getting ready to close it due to it being a 'sick building'.
