Was just in Tesco, and they now have free WiFi. Now for the bad news....

Sorry. We've blocked this page.

When we do this, it's usually because:

the content might be age-restricted, controversial, or against the law; or

it's acting like a virus or phishing site.

We know this can be frustrating. But we hope you understand.

Tesco doesn't like Autoshite...... :P

Tesco is shite without the e anyhow, it's just another good reason to give them the swerve.

Some wifi providers have a filter that picks up on certain words or phrases. A good test is to try and look up Scunthorpe Football Club. If it doesn't allow access it's one of those using this kind of filter; it uses an alphabetic algohythm to filter. In the example of Autoshite the filter picks up the SHI*E section & blocks it. In the case of Scunthorpe Football Club the filter picks up the CU*T in "scunthorpe" & blocks it! It's been set up to block certain swear words, although it's not too sensible!

Fun, eh!

I suspected it might have been the 'shite' in autoshite.....

You have to love Tossco. Dialogue from the "blue sky thinking" meeting:

- Hey, we can offer our customers something useful at virtually no cost to us.

- What is it?

- You know, this newfangled wireless internet thing. Last week, my geeky cousin came over and installed it for me. It's fab!

- Sounds good. Let's wait for 11 years (or however long it's been that wi-fi has been widely available) until everyone's got the internet on their mobile phone, then we 'll make a song and dance about offering it!

Just realised that I've already used this Tesco wifi without realising by using their demo iPads to do some eBay business.

/Tin foil hat on.

It's not of just low cost to them, it is of benefit to them for customer research.

People with smartphones etc. set up to attach to any available wireless network end up tracked around the store. They use more than one wireless access point, and can record the time you spend in each zone. You can bet they also know what you are surfing for while in the store also.

Shitehoarding is not a crime!

Ask any member of the family I married into. I challenge you to get agreement from even one!

In fact, let's be fair; ask the wife or in-laws of ANY Shiter.
