scaryoldcortina Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 i once had the exact same car and it broke down with me the kids and missus in it on hols in cornwall..... just left it there by the road with keys lying in the ashtray, never saw it again If it's the same car, it was a dead fuel pump - we got it running this afternoon. Autofive should be along with photos later.
autofive Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 yes we did manage to get it started today scary fitted a different petrol tank and pump, new filter and checked the lines, pressurised the system and it fired and sounded okay, running on six pots unfortunately the water pump is burgered and had to be changed new rear brake pipes installed too tomorrow: refit the viscous fan and belts and get the engine up to temperature, then try the gearbox
autofive Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 plopped the wheels back on and went for a spin today gearbox works as it should, selects all gears and changes up at the right speeds / revs., brakes work, abs works, everything electrical works, no creaks or knocking, just need to replace plugs, oil and filter and its done then its on to the beemer
Lankytim Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 This is great! Its back up and running in double quick time too. Bravo!!
purplebargeken Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Great thread. These are brilliant cars. I've had 3 2.9 Granada's and a variety of the Mk2's. Kudos for bringing the Granny back to life. Chuck some leather in it, you know it makes sense Congrats Ken
autofive Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 timely bump it's just waiting for an MOT now, then i ll tax for January
Guest Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Cool car. I had an ex-police 2.8i 1986? auto hatchback in Ford Racing Beige (with autumn tint) many years ago.I used to run a knockabout car for my scuba diving - to save the "Good" car.It was definitely tuned - was a lot quicker than the standard 2.8i - was nearly as quick as my mates ST24 mondeo. But was an incredibly basic spec.I found the fuel economy not too bad - especially on a long run, but would drink it of you caned it.But a lovely car - big/smooth/comfortable - huge boot - it made a great tow car.Fold the back seats down, throw all the kit inside and drive on.I miss it a bit - (I traded up to a 4.6 litre Classic Rangie - better tow car but VERY VERY thirsty.)
warren t claim Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Good work! I've fond memories of my old B reg mk3 Ghia. The 2.8i motor was quite economical on a long motorway run.

eddyramrod Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Never mind Mk2s, there's a gorgeous Mk1 GXL for sale where I am, and with the gearbox that everyone on the planet (except me) wants!
