bigstraight6 Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Heard about this on the radio earlier, and it all sounds quite interesting....http://www.efuel100.com/
Father Ted Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Got a couple of bags of Silver Spoon, and a jar of Marmite - so may have a go this weekend knocking some out....
TheScrapman Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Heard Foxy talking about this as well and went to have a look at the website.£5000 for the kit, then 50p per gallon - would take rather a long time to recoup the cost, but - 50p per gallon! Can a car really run on 100% ethenol?Wouldn't our tax happy government frown at people running micro refinaries in their sheds.Cracking idea though. Sure they will sell many of these units.
Volksy Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I'm sure in Me-hi-co ethenol is an everyday fuel......gawd sceneVDubYatax will be growing again.......
Richard Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 If you produce less than 2500 litres a year you're OK as far as the taxman's concerned. I don't know how the law stands on EXPLODIN GARAGEZ though, I suspect that sort of thing is frowned upon. The price of vegetable oil has doubled in less than a year since it became legal to use it without declaring it. Expect the same to happen to the price of sugar if this system catches on at all, mind you £1 or even £2 per gallon wouldn't hurt.Assuming a pump price of £5.50 per gallon that would be 1000 gallons to recoup the cost. That means it would take between 8000 miles and 50000 miles to recoup the cost, depending on what you were driving. If you wanted to be tax-free and legal you would have to take two years to burn that. It's an interesting idea. If I was still doing high miles on my own fuel I'd be looking into it.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Yeah but once your banger-drivin mates knew you had one of these kits they'd be queueing up to fill up their tanks round your gaff, thus offsettin' the cost a bit.
Richard Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 It must be nothing more than a beer/wine making kit and a still. I think somebody with a bit of knowledge could make one quite easily for a few hundred pounds. I know a possible candidate so I'll ask him next time I see him. Maltelec, who posted pictures of his Forward Control Landie on here last week, could almost certainly do it too.
CortinaDave Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 True, plus you could run all of your shite on it... thats the downside of lpg conversions.. you only have it on one car so can change motors much less
Richard Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I've read the blurb again. To get Ethanol for 10c (not p) per gallon you have to feed it on discarded beer or wine. If you're feeding it on sugar you need 10-14lbs of sugar, say 5kg. That's about £4 per gallon, which is barely a saving at all.
Milford Cubicle Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Sniff around breweries and distilleries for their waste product, I don't think it's worth very much at all as it usually gets used as fertiliser.
