fiatdaft Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 What a brilliant thread! Can I throw in another FSO that WhatCar? featured almost every month for years, alas it never arrived.FSO Wars. What does it remind you of?Talbot Horizon. Infact the back looks 100% Horizon.Possibly an early ish attempt by the French to create a "Cheap" European car by finding a cheap Eastern european partner like they later did with the Logan? The horizon preceded the wars by quite a few years.
Guest Len H Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 It doesn't look anything like a Talbot Horizon.
Guest Len H Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I see that they are both beige 5 door hatchbacks.
dollywobbler Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 You know, I must concede that Len has a point. It looks like a Horizon if a non-car person was drawing it from memory, having only looked at a Horizon for half a secodn.
Timewaster Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I said reminds you of not is absolutely identical to. Try a different pic I'm thinking Mk1 Golf/Mk2 Astra/Horizon cross
freebird Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 The swage line says Horizon, the front end says an abortion, the sort of redesign that is supposed to cover a cars original design identity. I think it looks like the kind of car thats sold in Brazil or Peru, you know the Fords with VW engines mated to Peugeot gearboxes with Saab seats and a Ford Anglia dashboard, infact its exactly the kind of car most autoshiters would willingly splodge over.
dollywobbler Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Yeah, it kind of reminds me of everything from a Metro to a Mazda 323. There's a hint of Horizon perhaps, but not very much.
fiatdaft Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Bits of this aswell. Did somebody say all moderns look the same ?
Alexg Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 One of my favourite prototypes is this one. They should have built it! +1 I had a long look at this at Gaydon earlier in the year, wondering about what could have been....

They should have built it! +1 I had a long look at this at Gaydon earlier in the year, wondering about what could have been.... Sorry, just realised I've committed a faux pas with that one. Michelotti built it, and meddled with the design, but it was actually designed at Longbridge by some chap I've forgotten the name of. He was really pissed off about how it looked when it was actually built, especially the way the rear wing line seems a bit too high. Still a great concept!

What does it remind you of? IKEA 'ANTONIUS' CLOTHES STORAGE SYSTEM, £140 http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S69888906/
406V6 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 If you cover up the headlights on this horror it looks like a rip-off of the old Rover 2000 (P6 model)
ProgRocker Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Wartburg P760 A collaboration between Wartburg and Skoda in the 1970s. Wartburg dropped it and it went on to become the Skoda Favorit! Moar: http://www.autosoviet.altervista.org/main-english.htm Interesting! That bears a resemblance to the current Skoda Fabia.
freebird Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 A bag of smarties and a copy of Asian babes to the person that can identify what this prototype was based "along the lines of..."Clue: Condor.
Cavcraft Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Vauxhall of some sort, Viva E (coupe) perhaps? Having said the door handle looks a bit 'BL parts bin'!
Pete-M Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Worryingly, it's a not too distant relative of the Marina. ADO 68 innit?
freebird Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 Worryingly, it's a not too distant relative of the Marina. ADO 68 innit?Correct!!!I was a bit gobsmacked when i saw that, i mean, If only somebody upstairs had shown a bit of faith and balls.Such a striking design, such possibilities!!Mind you, they probably would have stuck a 998CC lump under the bonnet.....
Pete-M Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 If they had made the Marina look like that, and fitted it with suspension designed after the Boer War my life would be so different. I would never have lost all those years of slating Marinas off and winding BL apologists up on the PC forum. Damn you, Roy Haynes.

Damn you, Roy Haynes.Lol, I see where you are coming from.If Im honest, Ive always had a bit of a hankering for an early 1.8 TC. I went in one once, as a yoof, and it was so damn comfortable and sounded a bit lush.Years later, i did get the chance to drive a Marina, albeit a van and.......yeah.
barrett Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Vauxhall of some sort, Viva E (coupe) perhaps? Having said the door handle looks a bit 'BL parts bin'! It's amazing how much it looks like a Vauxhall, that was was my first thought too. The rear window/ beltline is pure HB and the bonnet is HC viva. Any idea who styled that, I wonder if it was someone ex-GM?

mattblack Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Not really a 'prototype' as it never made it to production, but... Ferguson. Four wheel drive and a flat four engine.
Timewaster Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Just found this: and this: If anyone speaks Polish, they might be able to get the story here: http://www.skodovka.pl/viewpage.php?page_id=66
freebird Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 That bottom Skoda screams Citroen BX for some reason. Here is another little gem, can you guess what it became?
freebird Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 Hillman Imp?Nope. I think the prototype predates the Imp by a good few years, this prototype was mocked up in the mid 50s.Its deffo British tho.
Shep Shepherd Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 That bottom Skoda screams Citroen BX for some reason. Here is another little gem, can you guess what it became? Anglia van/estate car?
