falling back in love with shite you have grown to hate

Fixed the Yugo today - just took it out for a spin and forgot how much I love driving this daft car..the fiat engine is just brilliant - the exhaust note snarls in a ridiculous way and the yellow headlights installed by Andrew just set it off

a total change from the evil loks I was giving it this morning, fantasising about weighing it in....must have been really bad!

fixing the car after weeks of stress feels like a huge weight is off the shoulders and using it has reminded me how much fun it is despite the challenges.

The Yugo Liveth!

not sure if I am going to keep it yet - it is effectively free to run as insurance is ££90 for a year and it sips petrol. I've also pretty much replaced the entire charging and ignition wiring loom there is not a hell of a lot else that can go wrong with this car through trial and tribulation it has become reliable

I think we all 'go there' at some point. The 2CV has distinct phases where she's nowt but bloody trouble. Then the sun shines, I go for a quick hoon - surprising a few tourists with the bodyroll and pace - and its all grin again.

Bit sad I suppose (and I never fell out of love with either) but the Transit and the Cavalier both make me grin enormously when I drive them. Funny that something as ordinary as either can be forgotten about when you don't have one, but one drive and you realise how much you loved them.

I suppose the thing about our 'habit' is that driving stuff most people wouldn't look at twice is actually great fun.

I wouldn't call it love exactly but my enthuisasm for the Sceptre has returned just lately. At one point I had a massive downer on for it, (probably linked to general depression at the time) and wanted rid. It didn't help that I found a load of welding that needed doing either... Now I've started doing some of the improvments I'd planned, like fitting the better dash and wood trim, the better seats and fitting carpets in the front I feel much more positive about it. This leads to more enthusiasm to do more (going to tidy up the body over the winter). I also try to use it most weekends if the weather is OK, I find the more you use an old car the better it drives/runs and after all, that's what it's all about.
