Quick mot question

Just a quick question to the Black Country brethren out there in AS land. Do any of you know or recommend a decent mot place in the area that knows their onions? The last place I've been using in recent times has shut up shop for a prolonged holiday and the recently acquired shed A4 is due soon and I don't fancy being ripped off by going in cold to anunknown place.

Cheers muchly.

You could try the place I used to work at: Bridge Street Service Station, Garratts, Old Hill, B64 5RE. Tell the gaffer Mo sent you, I still help out there sometimes. Also, if you are there anytime soon, you'll most probably see my Rover Sterling parked there.

Ok, my mate is a tester (@ a main dealer but don't let that put you off!) not far from Makro. I can put you in touch if so desired - he does foreigners so it won't have to go in via front door so to speak if you want. He's also sensible when it comes to testing.

Hmm. Thanks for the replies folks! It's just that I haven't had a regular mot place round here for years; I've ended up using places near to where I've been working at the time (Mostly coleshill ofate but as I've said he's buggered of abroad for a month on his hols, Jammy sod). It's about time I got a regular place to send my chod, nothing iffy but you always get that feeling with unknown people whether they're being straight or just on the make. Does that make sense?

I know what you mean, thankfully I've known Bridge Street Services sinec they started in Bridge Street and have alway been upfront and truthful. When I worked there I saw the gaffer actually show people what was wrong with thier cars and how other garages were trying to take them for a ride.

One guy came in stating another garage had told him he needed a new exhaust middle pipe due to "excess corrosion" which would have cost him about £350/£400 for a new middle pipe + labour. This "corrosion" turned out to be nothing more than a bit of surface rust, my gaffer showed the owner and quoted him £10 to clean it up. As a result of being well-known fro being truthful, his garage is always choc-full work and customers clambering over themselves to have jobs done on thier cars. I know this as I had to endure the customer services side of it when I worked there

John Downes Garage on the Amblecote Road in Amblecote 01384-78504.

Really helpful and they take interest in the weird old bangers I take along.

One of the guys who works there has two Landcrabs, two AD016's (including a very nice 1300GT) and a very early MG Metro. So they have people who understand old cars and really take the time and trouble to help you out, and I have found them very reasonable too!
