Today I went along to a local car show a couple of villages away.£3.00 for punters and free to show entrants. There was a few autojumble stands,a bar.coffee and food stalls and a live band.

Seemed to be a lot of shiney paintwork, quite a few kit-cars and some (tastefully) modified cars aswell.

We'll start with an A series Manta running a V8, didn't look Rover/Buick sourced to me though maybe the chrome rocker covers threw me.

Carrying on with the engine swap theme I'm sure this Ford has been posted before by someone else (well it is beige)

From engine swap to ,well just too far really

I worked with the owner of this Microbus 20 years ago so stopped for a chat. The chap from Classic Car Weekly took some photos and had a little interview with Pete (the owner) which made his day.The Chopper infront is a genuine 1978 model which was given to Pete's son Aaron. After replacing all the bearings Aaron insisted the bike stayed "ratty"

Beige again and for sale but also full of wob by the looks of it

This chap was originally parked next to me.He was putting the mats down when I got there and spent the next hour polishing. We were right by the dusty entrance road and after lunch he began to winge so moved next to my mate Steve.

6038615798_7c7179ea3f.jpg

Oh yeah,my mate Steve and his FWD Triumph for sale (who ate all the pies ?)

6038625272_01e01cdf48.jpg

Something you don't see every day.....but by fook was the owner boring

My mate Dean was unfortunately parked next to the Pantera with his bike engined kit-car

6038059813_5ccf58df3b.jpg

Something else you don't see very often a Renault Spyder

6038624498_21f34fc413.jpg

Between this and Dean's kit-car was this flat front Porsche 911 with a spider rear end, another kit perhaps ?

Wow an Avenger rally car

This Renault 5 GT turbo lives in either my village or the next one along as I often see it parked outside the village shop

Carrying on the hot hatch theme, well warm with this one

This one's hot ,RS turbo

That dodgy Classic saloon with the WRONG paint was at BL day t'other week.

Loving the Subaru truck, that has got to be one of the oldest survivors now?

The area code for the phone number is Peterborough and Maxey is only 8 miles from Ferry Meadows (BL show) so it's a local bodge job.

The Subaru was great and the seats were still intact. The owner reckoned he had done alot of welding to it but I suspect his welder was made by Isopon judging by the wavey doors. He was open to offers but it was Steve who spoke to him not me.There is another show in Stamford in two weeks and I think the truck is local so it will probably be there too.

That VW porsche kit car thing is freakin grade A!!! I reckon it would fool a lot more people, if it wasnt coated in shitty stripes and bits of tat, thats a dead giveaway that the owner is simply on too low an income to have a real porsche.

Posted

It sounded six cylinder air cooled when the guy left and the dash was '70's Porsche dials on painted metal. It turned out the owner was sat on the grass within earshot of us discussing whether the car was a kit or real.He probably heard the droning nasal tones of Pantera man and decided to keep quite incase Pantera man struck up a conversation.

Thread resurrection time.

Although Maxey show is a couple of months away I went to baston car and bike show today.

A well organised show now in it's second year (I missed last year due to being in hospital). There was a fair, a live band, beer tent and food stalls.

Anyway first up is this delightfully rattle-canned Singer.

then two tone Panda

7478768050_613d49fd59.jpg

Many of us saw this over the top Volvo at last year's BMC show

one for paykan hunter well it's a Humber but near enough

7478771242_0ab1d38426.jpg

This very rare Peugoet 505 looked good

7478772876_24f44ddf56.jpg

I followed this beast along the parkway the other day and it looked most uncomfortable

GTM build cars in colours other than red now

7478777316_e5a3991eaa.jpg

I've seen this "name in lights" a few times lately which isn't surprising as it lives near Stamford

7478789374_0f68b5508a.jpg

For me, the car of the show.So much so I took two pictures

7478793978_bbd65844cd.jpg

this Roadster was in my local garage having it's brakes fettled last week.

the owner had fitted all new brake shoes but didn't seem to know how to adjust them (scarey)

7478795532_3bea95bb82.jpg

great rear spoiler but not sure if that is a numberplate fail on this T350

7478797050_6e3058ef3e.jpg

how many cylinders are enough ?

7478820208_60f23b724d.jpg

although there is another locally I've not seen this Honda supercar before (the other one is red)

7478821684_4a49028bb1.jpg

here's the website http://www.bastoncarshow.com

A few more

the pride of it's owner, you just know it's going to be a good show when one of these turns up

7479375926_53edd0bc2d.jpg

there were a few of these, although all the others had the big white stripes and judging by the clocks atleast two were fakes

7479371908_2c9dea9e27.jpg

I chose this one because it looked ready for action

7479373774_22d67f90ab.jpg

the Triumph sports six club were there in force and this was alongside

7479367958_956ebb3b62.jpg

always liked the look of these

7479377828_0930ebe72e.jpg

don't see many of these anymore.Nice car in it's day

7479379710_08d108fb54.jpg

There was plenty more to see.By now I was feeling peckish and the queue at Sam'n'Ella's outside catering was rather large.Ominously the queue to the bogs was just as large so I left.In the carpark I just missed an Audi 80 quattro but did manage these two

7479383572_b9c9046725.jpg

think this 2.8i might live in Wisbech as I've seen it leaving Peterborough on the A47 quite often.

Up close the paintwork is on par with the Singer from earlier

Ace pics. I've seen the Capri about too.

Was thinking of going to Maxey but not sure what with.

Mr Scruff any of your vehicles would be welcome at Maxey (apart from the Clio obviously). There is always a group of old Land Rovers with logs and large rocks to park one wheel on.

If you go to the Stamford show make sure you have a good clutch and handbrake as getting in and out is a nightmare.

Easton on the hill is not far from you and that show is getting bigger every year.(It's where I first saw that Wolseley a couple of years ago)

GR9 stuff Mr. M. The 'thing' is an AF Spider, Mini-based obviously. Not sure the side of a transverse A-series is quite as romantic as the V-twin Morgans that it's presumably trying to evoke...

Thank's Barrett, I just knew you would know what it was.

I am fairly sure that is a Type R? If so, one of perhaps less than 5 in the UK.

This looked like it had been painted with aerosol cans but close up it was original paint and only two owners from new

Sulking in the car park

7808730728_1b1b73e114_z.jpg

A contender for fifty shades of beige as every panel had faded differently.Very rare car though

7808729042_a4f608b716_z.jpg

Although at the show I followed this on the way home

7808725604_16bde07f25_z.jpg

The Triumph Roadster from the Baston show won best 40's car and best in show.

Dean's kitcar that I photographed last year won best kit.

All in all a good day out and it was great to catch up with old friends.
