Ace Classics....a cautionery tale

The above bunch of Herberts operate somewhere up North. I contacted them ref a very nice Peugeot 504 pick they had for sale on ebay [distinctive yellow and blue jobbie] I spoke to a bloke called Rick about doing a swap for my VX 4/90, which he seemed keen on. I offered to travel from Jersey with the VX, and meet him "half way" round Oxford somewhere.He assured me that he could meet me "on any week day". We made tentaive plans to do the swap last Friday, but he would "have to check" that he could make the meeting. "I'll get back to you later today", needless to say, he didn't. I finally got a text from him with some old waffle about a "surprise week end away" arranged by his wife.

"OK" sayeth I , how about this Friday [today]. Once more, the "let me get back to you" spiel [this from someone who could meet "any weekday"]. Needless to say, I had to chase him. "Can't make this Friday, too busy, I've got a lot on, can we leave it for a couple of weeks". I offered to come to his door........more waffle.

He rang me last night, he'd sold it to someone else, and admiited he'd been striging me along, in case the other deal fell through. He had the temerity to claim that he'd saved me money by not buying a ferry ticket, and comeing on a wasted journey.

but how many cars have we held to sell to the first bloke who called who was definately coming round with the reddies at the weekend and in the meantime beating other punters away from the door with a shitstick only to find the cnut never bothers showing. or comes up with an excise like his mums, next door neighbours, cleaner's son had to be rushed to hospital etc etc

 

Absolutely not saying that you woudl have done that but it happens a lot

This place is literally 5mins up my road. He does always seem to have a nice selection of genuinely nice looking stuff. A bit salty though.

 

Not nice of him to string someone along like he did with you, certainly someone to watch out for.
