Oh bollocks

You know the old saying"never meet your heroes, you're bound to be dissapointed".well, I'm suffering a similar problem. I've always had a fetish for old Vauxhall tat, and decided to scratch the itch once and for all, and get myself a proper one, which I did [see VX4/90 thread] well, it's everything that I was promised it would be no rust lovely interior, good chrome, excellent mechanics etc etc.

Problem is, it's almost too good to use. I had planned to use it on my hols, towing my trusty caravan, but it's really a bit too low geared, and there are no bolt on mods that I could do to improve that significantly. I don't want to do an engine transplant [OMG REDTOP] frinstance, as that would mean buggering up it's total originality.

Therefore, what to do. I need something bigger, more powerful, and with longer legs, so if any shiteist fancies a deal, please get in touch, all stuff considered [possibly not Horsey Horseless, or Fairthorpe Atom]

I'm kinda confused. Do you want to get rid of the Vauxhall in exchange for something else or add another car to your fleet?

I think Colc is saying he want's to swap for something else with a bit more BHP, It's a shame you feel the need to sell it already though.

Maybe you should keep your eyes open for a Cresta 3.3.

It's not so much the power, it's the final drive you don't like, right?

The estate diff in my dear old 101 was very short.

I understood the gearbox was shared with the F / FB / CA van. 3 speed, 4 speed and overdriven 4 speed were available.

The FB VX4/90 had a heavy duty 5 lug axle from Cresta/Velox so that's worth swapping on if you can find one. I'd guess the Cresta and Velox had taller final drive and therefore a half-shaft swap with one of those would be the best way. Two of those are on eBay right now, whispering buy me.

Or something.

Interesting. Some research called for. Meanwhile, anyone out there with a P6 or something similar..........

Been offered a straight swap with an "as new" Peugeot 504 diesel pick up...........

Fitting these should make it capable of cruising at 99mph all day.
