Scrap prices.

Used my day off yesterday to gather up all the scrap I'd been saving up/hiding from the robbers in white vans.

Went to CF Booth in Rotherham, spent a while there being giving the run around with being new, felt a bit out of place in my Astra Estate when there's lorries outside with Underground Trains on the back...

Threw out all the steel then took some ally to the smaller scales, got molested and learnt a new term "irony" - ie. you were too lazy/stupid to take something to bits fully so it was classed as ally rather than irony because it had a single fitting/bit of steel on it.

Mixed scrap is £190 according to the sheet.

Totalled £59.02 - not bad for a couple of hours work.

Does 220kg of mixed scrap sound right to get into the Astra - sounded a lot but guess all the bits added up?

The sheet the guy had showed it as 1300kg at weigh in, 220kg mixed, 14 ally and 18 irony.

Soon adds up.

I usually get a similar weight in a 6 x 4 trailer on the back of one of my 1100s. :)

Car battery in my last lot was 12kg and resulted in £6. :)

£165 a ton for iron/steel.

£650 a ton for ally drinks cans.

£300 a ton for old pushbike wheels. - your irony? ;)

Have to go to several places e.g. batteries go place A; cans place B and steel place C.

My old Disastra Inastate has been to Boothy's. Around 550kg of mixed cast iron and steel...... Netted a couple of quid. I was using van springs and Vectra brakes.

Then I took the trusty 40 yr old Land Rover with 981kg of mixed alloy/steel/cast and strolled out with £190 the other year. The blokes in the big shed were agog to see the gaps between the springs and chassis. Apparently it's one of the heaviest loads an old Land Rover has taken in recently. Police tend to wait around looking for tail draggers. After collecting a few bits of Land Rover the other week I tipped the scales at 2660kg..... unladen, it's 1600kg approx...!!

I left the bottom half of the block and took the cylinder head I couldn't drag it into the car.

I'll have to dismantle it a bit more.

I'm liking the scrap prices as you can justify spending an extra 200 quid on each shitter as it'll weigh in for 200 if all else fails :D

i had a job (early 90's) to clear out one of p&o's many storage buildings... they sent me down to portsmouth in a 7.5t lorry and when i got into the room i was to empty it was full of spare stainless steel serving counters from the canberra.. i phoned them to ask where they should be stored and the guy said they are to be dumped  ..so being just around the corner from a scrapyard i loaded the lorry to the hilt and drove it around... i got £582 for the load of clean stainless steel... as it was getting after 4pm i had to drive back to southampton knowing there was still loads of the stuff stored there..never did get to return

but it was a great pay day... and that was on top of my wages
