Rover related trouble

Oh God, I currently have a massive P6 V8 auto related crush right now, which hopefully will pass...

Practical everyday proposition if I lost the (already marginal boot) to a LPG tank? Would appreciate it if ex owners tell me how much of an excellent/dreadful idea this is...

Think you'd really want to replace the main fuel tank and have a small reserve petrol tank. The boot really, really isn't big as it is. Not sure how practical tank replacement is.

Oh and did someone say 'base unit rot?'

Could you not get a doughnut type tank to fit in the spare wheel area on the side or can't you get upright spare-wheel gas tanks?

I have to say being a Rover nut through and through I was never that keen on the P6 untill I bought one a few years ago, so much nicer than you could imagine, superb suspension and ride and of course that lovely V8, I'd have another in an instance.

Hey, I like Shitemeister's thinking, but surely the solution for a P6 is to buy a doughnut spare wheel tank and fit it on the bootlid. Whack an old plastic "chequered flag" wheel cover over it and JOB'S A GOOD'UN!

I have much empathy with you here. I have very little time for most British cars but I absolutely love the P6, the styling, V8 engine and apparent comfort of the thing. I WANT one one day.

If you can afford it I think I would worry about finding a nice enough one first, seeing on how you get on with it for a few months and only then even think about LPG conversions. I'd thought about converting my 405 to LPG, but then considering you have to use it for two years before you see any savings does make you think again.

Well, the more I think about it, the more I think it is an excellent idea :-)

The plan would rely on a planned career change in the next couple of months, but seems workable. I had been thinking about a vertical tank, but it seems less than ideal to have that much weight offcentre. Given that I plan to use one of a few secondhand kits a friend has removed from old jags, whatever tank fits may be a good starting point.

I'm 6'6" and miss the comfort of my old XM diesel auto; a P6 strikes me as an excellent replacement...

wouldn't worry too much about the weight issue, most toroidal tanks aren't that large capacity so wouldn't weigh that much more than the standard spare wheel.

It may slosh a little bit but in a P6 it's unlikely to affect the handling as the tank would only be a few inches behind the (vertical) petrol tank and I've never experienced the petrol sloshing about cocking up the handling..

Besides, it's a P6 V8. There wouldn't be fuel in it for long anyway...
