Wanted: 4x4.

Wanted: Cheap 4x4. Something along the lines of a Fronterror (ideally a 2.0 Sport) or old Pajero or whatever. As long as it has a decent amount of MOT, is mechanically good and reliable I'm not too fussed. Much prefer something with a manual box and ideally as close as possible to Chester please. Battle scars are no problem at all.

It's for a present (of sorts) for my lad to go offroading in and we have a pretty lame budget of up to about £500 so sing out if you have anything or know of something.

Oh, and just to extract the urine even further anything with even just a bit of tax left would help. Don't want to travel hundreds of miles by the way.

for greenlaning has he considered a shitetrak? - a lot more capable than you might think and a lot cheaper to buy/run than a shogun

I'd go Sportrak too. They're not bad to drive at all. They do rust quite horribly mind...

I have a Shogun.

Trouble is it's 1/10 scale.

My lad is nearly as tall as me Mr Watt, have you got any 1/1 scales ones anywhere instead?!!

Scooters/Dolly: One of them would be GR10 but have seen precious few within my shit budget.

Suzuki? Lada Niva? Or for real shite points: Dacia Duster!

ShiteTrak. On the plus side, it's a bit of a hound but still road legal; has chunky tyres and some random bits of metalwork on it. The BIN's £700, but no-one's falling over themselves to bite his £400 start price, so it might be in budget for you.

On the downside it's in Edinburgh. But I'm not doing much this week - work's as flat as a witches' tit - so I'd nip over and have a gander if you like.

Put anything on swapz.co.uk and you will get offers to swap for eithre a Pajero or Shogun. FACT.

My mad shootist mate Dalgan 'might' be 'selling' his Ford Maverick if really shit 90's off roaders are your bag. I know it's rough as fuck but everything works.

Oh wait - you had a Fronterror, yes a Maverick would be probably be BANG ON TREND. I'll ask him next time he comes down the unit.

As for off road RC, my Lunchbox can get further. Until the front wheel falls off and it ends up sinking in the pond. Mmm, would dredge that bird off Dr Who no problem.

And Mondeos. In fact I think it's the law that you HAVE to offer some sellotape bumpers, shitty old Mk2 Mongdeo as a swap for anything.

Jon: cheers, keep me posted please. I *might* have found one now but always interested to see what's about before comitting.

Might be selling my 2.8 SWB Fronterror - it's rusty as feck underneath, and in need of fettling, BUT, it's the 2.8 Isuzu lump which is the best engine in any 4x4 ever. Kinda running out of time/room to sort it for some laning. 11 months ticket on it .

Having owned a 2.8-litre Trooper, I'll have to disagree with you. Couldn't pull the skin of a rice puddin'. Reliable certainly, but best 4x4 diesel engine? For a start, the 3.1 has more urge. I think I'd still opt for a Nissan six pot in my dream 4x4. Maybe I should do that when the Rangie starts popping heads...

Well, you are entitled to your opinion. It's wrong, but you are entitled...:-).

The 2.8 Fronterror had got the '3.1' turbo as standard iirc - front mounted intercooler and in a 'proper' swb chassis is bloody awesome. Hugely understressed in that guise. Dead easy to get more torque out of as well if you wanted. And it'll do 30mpg +, more on a run.

So ends todays Frontera indoctrination. :-D

I trust it's something utterly appalling.

You'd better believe it.
