I'm going to regret this: Anyone want a Cortina?

I'm not actually sure I know what I'm doing here but I've spotted something else I want to buy and it means the Cortina will have to go...

1972 (tax exempt YO!) Cortina 1.3 (actually a 1.6*) four door saloon. First reg'd 10.07.1972.

MOT 11th April 2012.

Taxed (free!) until the end of March 2012.

Was a 1.3 originally now has a reconditioned X-flow 1600 engine.

Had shit loads of money thrown at it in fairly recent years:

20.03.2001: Receipt for various inc. sills, engine parts and a bit more: £1,908.85.

18.07.2001: Receipt for brakes, welding, engine parts and a bit more: £2,626.78.

Pulls very well and engine sounds mint. Gearbox, brakes etc all spot on. GR9.999 fun to drive and always gets nice comments. Not totally original, has the wrong grille, Mk5 steels and a 'sports' door mirror. Personally speaking I wouldn't change any of them because the car looks just right as it is, the whole style/stance seems perfect to me and is what attracted me to it in the first place.

It'd be piss easy to get it back to standard, probably twenty quid (at the most) for original steels, a tenner for the grille and about a tenner for a door mirror. All easy to find too.

Carpets a bit thread bare, think they're about £90 for new ones, never bothered me too much but does spoil the appearance internally.

O/s/f wing will need plating or filling along the top, think you can get repair sections though or just hoijke a fibreglass wing on it. Windscreen scuttle pan will want the same treatment too if you're arsed. Rear arches were done (previous owner's words) not too long back but the o/s one wants spraying in a bit better if you're fussy.

It was running a bit 'odd' it'd sometimes splutter when warmed up. 'Fixed' this by some quick carb adjustment but now it struggles to tick over when warm though definately pulls a lot better now. Keeps up with modern traffic no danger and brill to drive.

It's got the crappy standard carb fitted BUT....I have a twin choke Weber c/w manifold that can go with it but the carb will want a strip down I reckon.

Some (probably last five or six years worth of) old MOT's.

Pictures to follow, some have seen it at Cholmondely Castle in May and it was quite well pictured though I will bang some pictures up.

Very (as in extremely) reluctant sale but that's the life of shiter for you. If the shitemobile I'm chasing (or the other one I have in mind) fall through then I'll be keeping the Cortina as I love it.

It's in sunny Chester, very close to the M53/M56/A41 etc and easy reach of the M6. if you live miles away ask anyone you like to thoroughly inspect it on your behalf and either report back in private or post up their findings on this thread, I have shag all to hide and I don't do people over.

£1750 or offers and yes, that IS more than I paid for it but it reflects what I think it's worth and it's not likely to ever decrease in value. Quite the reverse I shouldn't wonder. Shiters discount will apply but with great respect I don't want to drop in big numbers as I don't want to sell it anyhow! Sat here for days and days thinking about this and it's not an easy decision I can assure you.

It did cross my mind but it's too far from me for starters and Im going to wait until the Kadett and the Escort are sold before i decide what to buy next.
