gtd2000 Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 "If Voting Made Any Difference, it would be illegal" - - Jello Biafra Actually, although I honestly believe democracy is load of old cobblers, maybe it's time for a change of career - looks like a very cushy number being a politician: This was an actual day in Jeremy’s diary in 2005: People of a nervous disposition should perhaps take advice from their GP before reading - it's very harrowing stuff! http://www.jeremypurvis.org/dayinthelife.htm If that's supposed to be a hard days work, then I must have been working in a gulag all these years by comparison....
Twiggy Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I don`t understand why the AV vote was first past the post.......
alf892 Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 It should be 'one man, one vote', so that'll be a 'No' to AV from me. I think PR would be a good move, but AV is just likely to invite more lunatics to the party. People who don't like, for example, the Tories and who don't understand how voting works would be likely to vote 1. Labour, 2. Green. 3. Raving Loony. 4. BNP without understanding that because of the way that AV works it's perfectly possible for those lunatics in the Green party to be voted in - even though they came second. If a horse wins a race, you don't give the prize to the second place horse because lots of people bet on it each way. Nicely put Pete.......convinced me!
ProgRocker Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 DW....I believe in Frankln's attitude of I may find what you believe in is abhorrant and utterly disagree with it but I will lay down my life for your right to express that belief... I thought it was Voltaire who said that back in the 18th Century I voted 'yes' to AV and 'Green' in the local elections.
dollywobbler Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I voted 'yes' to AV and 'Green' in the local elections. Same here. Can't quite believe that I've voted Green, but locally, their policies make a lot of sense.
rml2345 Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I voted yes to AV in the hope that they can tie up Parliament for 5 years and give us a bit of a rest from their meddling...The downside is that we might end up with no government at all, like the Belgians. That is a downside, right?
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Belgium seems to be ticking along quite nicely. Maybe this whole government thing's a load of fuss about nothing.
Richard Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 We effectively had no government between 1992 and 1997. Good times.
