Cylinder Head Postage

Recommended Posts

Right. My B16 Ruddspeed head is off to a new buyer in Sweden who intends to lob it on one of his many PV544s. I've never sent anything this large and heavy through the post before - any recommendations on how to package it up? I was thinking TONS of bubble wrap plus a snug fitting box and more bubble wrap.

Any other thoughts? He's happy to pay the (deranged) postal charges too. Happy days, considering what I originally paid for it. :D

i would wrap it in at least 4 layers of bubble wrap and make sure its totally sealed, then wrap carboard around it, tape it up and courier via interparcel

Try Parcel2Go, I usually lie slightly about the weight of stuff I send out and it costs 10 - 15 quid MAX. Things usually feel lighter once they're boxed as they're easier to carry in both hands (without getting your hands oily).

If it's got exposed valves open on the bottom, use a layer of polystyrene.

Just wrap it up in 2-3 layers of corrugated cardboard and send it - bubblewrap and other stuff will only be needed for the fragile contents of packages this lands on when roughly thrown around by the courier staff - it's cast iron, ffs.

pop it in an envelope and put a 28p stamp on it, job done

Some people are funny about packaging, the last few machined titanium components I've bought from the US and Canada were packed in strong cardboard boxes filled to capacity with expanded polystyrene shapes. It's fookin' titanium, not glass!

I've just taken delivery of a Triumph Dolomite cylinder head, that was sent to me for the cost of £20 and weighed like how things that were once made in Midland's factories should weigh - bloody heavy.

It came in a cardboard box that had been strengthened by bits of plywood.

Trouble is I cannot remember who the courier/carrier was so I've wasted your time I'm afraid.

Do not use Parcels2Go - shower of shite...

Interparcel.co.uk and you can see the options/prices/companies before you book etc.

With heavy stuff the main thing you need to stop is the item punching through the box when (not if) it's thrown by some chimp

while it's in transit.

A wrap of bubblewrap or two then wrap in layers of Chinese cardboard - the stuff that's impossible to cut with a knife but is quite bendy.

I've not had any trouble at all with P2GO, I've used them over 20 times. It could be trouble with the third party companies they contract out to?

Mine usually turn up at about 8pm at night!
