They do like to rust, parts are getting trickier due to the afore mentioned export boom and it won't set the world alight, that's for sure. Nice enough old bus though and getting rarer by the day.

Non-starting problem could (obviously) be a whole host of things and I'd suggest assuming the engine is knackered. Mechanically they're damned tough old things and will last for eons with basic servicing and little else.

It will export quite nicely (money wise) but non-runner will defo equal less spondulicks for it. If it's cheap enough (i.e under £150) then I can't really see how you can go wrong.

mmm, might be worth going to look then

any mechanical glitches i should look out for?

in case i buy it to run myself

Precious few if any. As said very strong units and capable of huge mileages, hence being extremely popular European taxis back in the day. I suppose just trying the usual (new fuel, good battery, checking for spark) is the best order of doing things as in my experience they certainly don't like stale petrol.

Drop me a p.m if you want to carve a few rips out of it as I do have a couple of contacts in the export game.

Bang on the export money, though had it been an automatic it'd have probably raised a bit more.

Jesus wept! That non runner sold for more than I paid for my MOT'd W124!
