I know I said watch for my next thread, for a possible new project, but the phone call I was waiting for hasn't come yet...

In the meantime, discussions have been taking place about my A40. We have more or less decided to run it with a twin-choke Weber, as you would a Ford Crossflow. Anyone got a suitable manifold to connect this with a BMC A-series? I realise postage is going to hurt, but let's see what's available. I've just had a trawl on ebay, without success; going to ask around the A35 and A40 club sites now. I'll be back.

Some more...

This is the clock panel in my Granada. I'm pretty sure that a GXL should have "wood" here so if you know of one lying about... My clock doesn't work either, I won't complain if there's one still in the panel. :D

This is what my front door cards look like. As you can see, the fake wood could be much better. I haven't tried yet but I'd imagine it's detachable from the rest of the card which should make postage easier. The corresponding trim on the back doors is fine.

I also need some of the plastic clips that hold the exterior side moulding in place, because I don't have enough and they're not doing their job properly.

Oh, and I'd still like a suitable manifold for the A-series, as posted above.

I would invest in a couple of rolls of Fablon, your chances of getting the Ford stuff is pretty much minimal...................

Eddy,

Not sure if this was meant to be the start of a generic wanted thread or if it's specific for you. If it is then sorry for hijacking and i'll delete my posts. :D

Anyway in the meantime I realise this is like asking for Dacia Denem parts but I am after a hardtop for my FSO caro pickup. I know several fso's have been spotted in fields etc so I wondered if anyone had seen one anywhere(outside Poland). I am looking for something like below so I can stick it on the back of mine. As for N188 MJO it is no longer showing on the dvla website.

Benno, I did intend this to be my shopping list, but I'll make an exception for you as you're asking for FSO stuff! :D I can't help you with your hardtop, I'm afraid, but I do know where there's an unused, unregistered Caro pickup sitting in a closed showroom over here...

Don't delete, it's worth leaving your post up just for that pic.

Thanks Eddy, didn't want to tread on any toes as it were. My Mrs is very keen on a holiday in Cyprus, she wants to go to Nissi Bay. Maybe I could book one way flights and drive back in the new Caro? Doubt it is for sale though!? Am I right in thinking you were in negotiations for an old polonez taxi?

Posted

Close: not a taxi but an ex-self-drive, from the same source! I'm in almost daily contact with the owner, and he knows how much I like them, so I can't see it being any more than a matter of time before I take posession of one or the other of these. Nissi Beach is away over the other side, at Ayia Napa, but it's only a couple of hours drive from me so get booked and come on over! :D I know some great places for lunch...

Yeah hire car, that was it, nearly there with the Taxi. It would be excellent if you could get your hands on one or both.

Would really like to come over, unfortunately finances aren't too good at the moment but hopefully will be able to afford a holiday before soon. Will deffinetly meet up for lunch! :)

I had a mini about 15 years ago that had webers fitted to an A series block - it is a configeration that exists - you might be better off asking the mini forums/clubs

What you don't want to end up with is one of the swan-neck manifolds, like this one:

as according to Vizard's book they are awful to the point of a single SU being better.

Thanks Rod, but both of those are for sidedraught, what I want is downdraught. Spotting appreciated, but it looks like I'll have to keep at it. Plenty of time, the car's a long way from needing it yet.

There are a few DMTL(?) manifolds on eBay, is that the sort of thing you were thinking on?

Posted

I don't know, I'll take a look and get back to you...

Posted

Well, happy days: I've found two that might be what I want. Negotiations begin...

*IF* I make it to the Retro Show, there's normally some kind of tat jumble in situ. I shall bear you in mind. PM what you'd pay for each Eddy and I'll keep the wallet handy on the off chance I see anything decent*.

*Pod 'decent' not always the same as objective levels of decency, I mean, pod face..........Jesus.

I think I might still have a Japanese carb and manifold somewhere, Aisin maybe? I'll have a hunt around, I think it was something aftermarket, typical Jap twin choke with the window on the float chamber, although, is the Metro carb / heated manifold not the quintessential means of feeding an A series.

Posted

Des, I could be seriously interested in that. If it's off a small Datsun, chances are it won't be far off fitting an A-series as Datsun used to copy a lot of Austin design. That Aisin carb sounds a lot like the Nikki I had on my Polonez.

Didn't do very well on ebay today: one of the manifolds was sold, the other is too dear.

Posted

Actually it could well be a Nikki, Japanese anyway whatever it is, at the moment it resides in an Anderson shelter crammed with chod, I'll be going around to have a dig some time soon so will put it to one side, or even better take some pics. I'm sure the manifold is Austin fitment, I have a head to check it against anyway.

Excellent stuff! Consider me very interested, pics will be warmly received. Can you remember what it was last on?
