50 Years after Yuri Gagarin, Something Else Russian!

Been out and about with my mate Torsten 2001 today! I've recovered a Lada from Essex and later I went to see a Moskvich.....

Since the photos were taken I've pumped up the ORIGINAL cross-ply tyres, and they've held their air! The bodywork is in reasonable nick and I'm arranging to enter into negotiations with the owner. It's done 27,000 miles & has stood totally still for 30 (yes, THIRTY!) years! The engine looks in good order, but am not yet able to confirm that it's not seized. The starter couldn't turn the engine over when jumped, but that might not mean it's necessarily seized. The brakes seem to have seized on, though. the log book, keys and paperwork are all in play. I'm interested.....

I'll keep the Autoshite community up to date on things

Wow, that is incredible! Best of luck with the purchase and I'd love to see more pictures!

30 years! What a find, that looks pretty good.

Lob a good dose of redex down the bores. Slick 50 did the trick for me years ago, but the car in question had only stood a mere 12 odd years!

I've a feeling it'll be alright ... if you put a load of what he said in the cylinders and turn it by hand.

Fuck a duck, that's an amazing find.

Looks like quite an early one too - they got squarer, later - didn't they?

This is one of the early ones, with a handbrake under the dash and controls bearing no resemblance to what they're meant to do.... BUT, the block is a direct crib of a B.M.W. 1500 (and I can personally confirm that-I've worked on both!) although the build quality's probably not up the Bavarian standards!

Seriously, this is a rare find and the fact that it's been garaged for 30 years is a serious plus in my book!

Excellent! 100% solid shite here. Wouldn't mind seeing some pics of the Lada either...

Ooh, a Scaldia! Nice.

(fact: assembled in Antwerp they were called Scaldia, Latin for the river Schelde that runs through Antwerp)

wonderful!

if you need any technical advice Sam Glover is pretty up to speed as he has a serious horn for eastern blok tat and is very well connected. He also knows guys in the Ukraine who can source parts for you

Very nice! And, having just done 1000 miles in four days in my 1972 Moskvich 427, I highly recommend it!

Proper racing car. Proper playboy racing driver.

Dear All,

The Moskvich owner mentioned earlier in this thread has asked me to remove the photographs of his car that I posted, and I have duly complied with his request. He has also informed me that he has accepted an offer equal to mine and that the car is now sold.

Pity really! I fancied it, could fix it, could trailer it away, have a lock up where I could have worked on it etc etc etc., but obviously it was not to be. My search continues....

Shame on him! I hope you have better luck with the next one...
