More Ford shite aquired!

Got a message the other night from a lad I know called Lee who runs a local MOT centre. He knows that I like my old Fords and recently put a ticket on my Cabriolet.

He said he had aquired a white XR3i and asked if I wanted any bits off it before he scrapped it as it wasnt worth him doing the work to get it up and running again, as well has not having the time and space.

I went to see him that night and looked it over and it had some decent parts. I told him id have the bumpers, seats, wheels, mudflaps, bonnet, exhaust, lights....then as im reeling off this list, said 'Sod it - how much do you want for the whole car?' - anyway, we agreed a deal I arranged for my cousin to pick it up and take it to his garage.

Cars done 105k, It has no MOT or tax and has been standing for the best part of a year apparantly. Lee said the engine was missing and smoky and the imboliser was also playing up making it a royal pain in the arse to start.

It needs a bit of work, but I think I can save it. Looked it over at my cousins, got it up on the ramp and its fairly solid. For starters though it will need 4 spots of welding, major attention to the back arch which has been ripped open, going to try a new coil pack on it to try to get it firing properly. Also needs a wheel bearing and a general tidy up.

The need is now even greater to shift my MK 4 1.3 5 door. (200 quid with an MOT, C'mon Guys, someone buy it!! :) )

anyway, here she is -

That looks like a decent enough thing on the whole, getting rare aswell.

Have to say though, that N/S rear quarter is fucked. It looks like someone has taken a crowbar to it

chap who had it apparantly reversed into a skip!. :(

car is all round original though, which is a major factor for me with these. Ive got no time for anything 'modded', or 'chavved' - you just know then they have had a hard life.

I know what you mean, this one does look pretty original. The holes above the arch should weld up easily enough.

8) oh yes!

Big fan of 80's XR's had a few myself though all fiesta's, a mate had a lovely mercury grey xr3i on a G plate about 10 years ago.

Thats a nice one as its the '90 spec' with different front bumper, seat fabric, rear spoiler, and alloys. With the added bonus that the 90 specs came with the EFI cvh.

Good save!

Well worth saving that. Well done. I am a also a big fan of 80's Fords and I think cars like this are worth a bit of TLC , it might be in a bit of a state but it's all there and all original. Keep us updated!

not my bag but you have to appreciate how good it seems, should be on its 3rd set of sills by now and they look pretty good

Good luck!

In my experience these escorts (and the later incarnations) are always MUCH worse than they first appear.

Like rust icebergs, what you can see is only 10%...

lovely mercury grey

Those words don't belong in the same language, let alone the same sentence. Mercury Grey, like BMC Harvest Gold, should never have been inflicted on the unsuspecting public.

Meanwhile: gr8 save, retro! That looks well worth preserving. As you say, the "originality" it has is worth a bundle.

That wheel arch looks as if it were used as a practice target for novice disc cutter jockeys.

Anyway well worth saving and will be a good drive. I could ramble on about how the CVH is a fun engine but you know that already; so well done anyway.

I know what you mean mate.

had a mercury grey one last year that seemed solid but the whole back end ended up needing welding up!
