It's a 1978 B series with a 14 litre Cummins in it and is supposed to go really well, the fella has replaced it with newer wagons and it's just sat around doing nothing. Currently MOT exempt etc, 500-odd thousand KMs on the clock, Fuller 9 speed gearbox. He wants around £2000 as is or £1400 without the recovery crane. I'd love one for steam haulage duties but it's A) the wrong time of year to buy another toy and B) I've got a feeling it's a bit long to fit a 5th wheel to. If anyone wants contact details drop me a PM. Oh yeah it's in Berkshire.

Nah, that'll be ideal for a 1.6m pin - no probs. GR83.07 for subbin' for Tesco...

Seriously tho'; £2k, is that what they're going for? Mind you, it doesn't look like it needs that much to get it back on the road.

That would be class on the vintage rallies.

would one need an HGV licence to drive this thing to the shops?

As long as it weighs less than 7.5t (bit marginal tho'), yes. I think*. It could certainly be taxed as a PLG.

*I.E - don't quote me on that.

My friend has an ERF of similar vintage.

He considered running it on his car licence but decided he'd be better learning how to drive them (he has three) properly.

Showman's licence means you don't need an HGV licence I believe. I expect Tim/Warren will know for certain but I seem to recall if you remove the fifth wheel and the truck is 7490kgs or under in total you can drive one.

I love those old ERFs. I had an E series with the 14 litre Cummins engine and Eaton twin split gearbox when I was on heavy haulage years ago. It was draughty, it leaked and it rattled, but it went like stink and would pull anything. A proper truck. 8)

Most 7.5 toners used by DFS, Argos and your local scaffolding company have a bigger footprint than those ERFs. The only thing you may struggle with is the gearbox, solved by finding a quiet road and a bit of trial and error.
