dollywobbler Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Time has not been kind to the 2CV. It's getting tatty in several places, yet two-pack paint has left it being a proper 'twenty footer.' Looks fine from a distance. The first thing that needs attention is the wheels and headlamp bar. I don't really want to spray them, as that just seems a recipe for mess judging by my previous efforts. As I'm not after concours, I was wondering about brush painting. I know sod all about paint, so what's the best stuff to use? If the wheels go well, I might tackle the bodywork more generally. There are problem areas all over the place. Moisture has got under the paint (not cured properly) in some places, rot needs dealing with in others. Any advice for a home-brew paint job appreciated. Like I say, I don't really mind if it does look home-brew - as long as it's painted! EDIT - have a pic, proving how good she looks from a distance.
Shep Shepherd Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I know a few people who have used Jenolite Repaint and Rustoleum to good effect when tidying-up scabby old Transits; both paints flow well without being thinned, leave very few brush marks and one tin is able to cover quite a large area. A quality brush is a must though, unless you want the finish to bristle with bristles
garethj Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 You can have a look at the bottom post on this page: http://autoshite.commlm/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5228&start=15 Have a search for Rustoleum on the VW 80-90 Wiki Foam brushes leave zero brush marks
M'coli Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I used a roller for the high-build primer on the Avenger, it worked pretty well. It did need flatting back prior to spraying the colour coat, but I'd have flatted back and roller colour coated it if it hadn't been a metallic.

dollywobbler Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 Thanks for your input chaps. All sounds good. She really has suffered this winter, even though she spent a lot of it in a dehumidified garage!

andrew e Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Allways prime before regardless. Foam rollers and re-paint or dulux. Both work well if primed and tacked before top coat. Follow with fine wet & dry in a bucket of soapy water.
