Remember this evil plan?

I could drive down for DW's BX, seeing Station on the way [to have his A-frame off him], then tow the 'broo back... or maybe the sis's knackered Corsa would feel safer...

Yes, you should do that, I'll even meet you off the M6 and buy you a McDonald's coffee. :)

Ooooh that's an offer. This plan is coming together too well. Would the A-frame fit in a 3dr Corsa, seats down?

MUST. RESIST. DEATH BY SWMBO IMMINENT.

Weeeeeell... Mrs KJ has agreed that the Impreza Sport will be unnecessary as our work bus this summer, and we could easily cope with something cheaper to run for the time being. I can make back a few hundred on the 'bay selling that, insurance should be (significantly) cheaper, as will fuel costs. I put £56's worth in it, in one go last week, more than I've ever put in owt. And now DW's BX includes 6 months rent, it has to be done. If it's still available that is, along with Station's A-frame. So, DollyW and Station, are we on? If that's two yesses, could we be on for next weekend?

Sorry, it's a no. I sold it this evening! Not sure framing a hydropneumatic Citroen would be that wise anyway.

ARrrgh bumhats.

No, the plan was to drive the old Corsa down and drag it back behind the BX.

Let us know if the sale doesn't happen (if it hasn't actually departed chez DW yet).

Again bumhats. Grrr.

Sorry about that. Typical that I've had a few vague sniffs over the past week or so then a last minute clamour for it! Worth keeping an eye open though - there are always a few for sale at any one time, and they're rarely expensive.

 just replied again on the other thread!

Thanks anyway, my initial enquiry probably seemed like vague sniff! I probably shouldn't have waited until today to tackle Mrs.KJ, but I felt the heat was off just a bit this evening!

Sorry to Station now: unless I spot something with a tow bar in your general direction that I fancy (or suitable in the eyes of the boss), then I won't be taking you up on your kind offer. Shame, that looks like a useful tool.

Just for info -i hauled my old BX back from Essex (120 miles) without issue on an A frame. It ran -so I raised it to fit, then switched off (usual steering lock precautions). It settled pretty quickly- but towed smoothly ,without issue other than being a little jiggly on country lanes.

So- it can be done..

Though it had to be stopped a couple of times and primed the suspension again as it was riding a little low.

My BX (eBay, BIN £100 sight unseen) was successfully A-framed from Swanage to Surrey in neutral with the engine running.... the A frame even had a little contraption that pressed on the brake pedal when the tow vehicle (Pug 405) braked. Neat.

On the other hand, my old dead BX (HGF) didn't do so well on an A-frame journey behind a C25 van... I had the bright idea that it could be towed in 5th gear with the sparkplugs removed. Sparkplug removal wasn't the greatest idea. The driver wore ear defenders because of the racket - and apparently it was still annoyingly loud. And at the other end of the journey, the engine and underneath of the bonnet were spattered with gooey brown oil and water emulsion. Messy.
