RedSparrow Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Hey, I like Robur trucks and so think they deserve their own thread. They seem to be in a class of their own, between vans and trucks, and coaches that are a bit too small to be much use - therefore ticking several shite boxes. And a prototype replacement...
pogweasel Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I have no information on this. INPUT! I like the fact that the front suspension/steering geometery -appears- to be based on the soap-box-racer string and pivot type of affair
Tayne Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I like the forward planning that went into the integrated ergonomic steps up to the cab.
RedSparrow Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robur_%28truck%29 Yeah the whole concept was clearly pretty badly thought through! Imagine what pedestrian safety people would say about it. The bumper is nicely set at small child head height.
fotorabia Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 im sure ive got more Berlin photos of them...as mentioned in previous thread..Berlin scene hated the petrols..so the diesels were well sought after..they were giving them away when i was there..all the squats in our area got their bars stocked by a delivery Roburs..along with the cheap coal and vodka we bought off the Russians when they were pulling out of Potsdamedit: the IFA W50 in the 1st photos we drove from Berlin to London -Enfield..we had to bump start it sometimes..which meant rolling it forward 1m..and then in London it was a right laugh..we l fooking drive right over u arse Porsche
RedSparrow Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 I would love to see any shots you have rab. Must've been interesting in Berlin in the early 90s, wish I had seen it then.
nigel bickle Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Long time on my list to own a Robur and a Zuk. Love their silliness- but reckon it'll cost a kings ransom to get one back to the Uk -so I'd love to find one here...
RedSparrow Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 RE IFA: Is that a load of steps to get into the cab on the hub of the front wheel? More excellent design! Was that one a riot police truck or something?
fotorabia Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 It was a nuclear-biological warfare truck which meant it had a sealed box on the back..but the operatives removed in case we suffocated...this was my mate Marc's..mine was the same except i didnt have the balloon wheels or the sealed box..mine was a workshop 4WD..ive still got the original DDR papers for it..what was interesting was that all the instructions in the cab were in English,,not Russian..so i reckon it was a special Military order for either Libya or Mozambique..an ex English colony where there had been a Socialist revolution..but never made it..so hence it became an technical truck for the DDR railways.. The rarest Robur was the Afrika Robur..they only built some hunderds of them..air cooled diesel..a friend of mine owned one and we did a round trip from Berlin-Magdeburg...aint far but incredibly slow.. and a pretty young East German woman who came with us..
fotorabia Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 My IFA W50 had a tragic life..its matching trailer was arsoned..i bought if for my business partner best friend..he got killed...his girlfriend tried to steal it off me..id paid for it..we stole it back after she started to paint it Cop Green..a massive wooden wagon right beside the IFA burnt down..which torched the side but nothing ignited on the inside..i had to rip the whole inside out cos the polystyrene insulation had all melted..rats chewed thru the electrics..but before i gave up on it and left..i lovingly painted it with mini rollers as close to the original color..then i bailed from Berlin and came over here..
