...Asking for a valuation!

A friend here has asked me to research values as he has a car to sell. I know the readership here includes some members of the "used-car motor trade" (copyright The Firm, 1982) so I thought it was worth a try.

It's a 1998 VW Golf 1.6 manual, 5 door, in silver. Yeah, I know... I'm almost asleep just typing that! But, it's been well looked-after, everything works, and it starts first go and runs nice and quiet. It has also been virtually nowhere. 50 thousand kms on the clock, which comes to about 30 thousand miles. So in UK, what's it worth? I know Cyprus values will be different, but if we can get a ballpark figure it's a start.

Thanks chaps.

98 could be last ofmold or first of new. if the old model, a normal miles junker is worth a bit more than FA, so the low miles and condition should being that up to £6 or 700 i guess, if the newer model, i would expect it would be more like £1200 to £1500, even more with the right vw knob after it. I would rather walk than have either.

Probably about 15,000 euros or something ridiculous in Cyprus.

1998 should be a Mk4. I'd suggest probably £1350-£1600.

Did you say 1998 ? check.

1600 5- speed ? check.

silver ? check. (and just turning 80,000 Km / 50K miles)

on an island, where prices do not relate to sanity, check !! This is my MARK THREE 1998 Golf, worth $15000 here ....

- worth very little indeed, back in Blighty.(Mexican-built, they never progressed to the Mk 4)
