dirty pictures, missing nuts and a story

That's the kind of engine that would fit a Series Land Rover....... Hmmmm. Should it rot out around you, and be left on the floor, after hosing the rest away, I "might" be interested. Maybe not though... Still. Shite enough to qualify for the things I thought of just then!

(Must try to find a Santana 6 cylinder 3.4D to go in instead.)

If that really does happen (unlikely as the only real rust is on the doors with otherwise a light dusting here and there) I have a '72 88"er that it'll slip into with minimal KY assistance...

Oooh I like Midis. Has it got the column change?

Of course it does - if it has the floor change, it's not a real Midi

I did think about the JB weld stuff. I used it to seal the homebodge inlet manifold when I put an SU hs4 on a suzuki gs400 twin a few years back

Thing is, I'm looking at this as a long termer and I don't know if I really trust what is basically a resin on it. Well, not on that bit anyway... And yes, I know the box says you can make a whole engine/cure a famine/stop volcanoes etc. with it but still...

Trip to the weldy place today - after a bit of a discussion I got the quote for £40  Methinks they didn't want the hassle of a six inch bead.

Thought about getting some ally wire and gas for the mig - haven't welded ally for years and never with a mig so decided against it.

Remembered I had some JB weld in my toolbox - about 10 years old...

Went to carpartsemporiumextraordinaire (not hellfrauds) and got some chemical metal (not to be used over 180c or in constant contact with petrol - if I manage either of those in a water pump on a diseasal I'm doing something very completely much of a wrongness)

So loads of die grinder fun tomorrow and see what happens

If it's any comfort, the parts supply for Midi's was erratic even when they were current models. The front shocks for mine went on order, and took a couple of weeks to arrive. Ditto for a clutch kit, after a spot of 35' static caravan towing. This was in '92, and the van belonged to a Vauxhall dealers!

Still, they are lovely old things, and good to see you keeping this one going.

Just for fun, I actually went into the Vauxhall dealer in town today to confuse them about the missing inlet manifod nut, the manifold is held on with 2 studs and 3 bolts, they can get the studs+nuts but the bolts have been discontinued  (awaiting callback with any luck about how much to tension the timing belt - I might even start a new thread on here to ask too).

It's been a really good old truck to us and it looks like it's stuck with me.

Best of luck with keeping it going, Midis seem to just disappear without me really noticing, it was only when they were mentioned on here a few years back that I realised they'd gone.

What was the (presumably now extict) people carrier-type one called?

For some reason not being able to remember this is really annoying me...

Them's perfectly good gaskets, is them! Just needs a good splurt of Hylomar/Hermashite dribbling out of the join, and it'll be as good as new.

I've been a fan of bronze brazing for years, for a variety of reasons. It would be interesting to see how this kind of thing goes, it should be ideal for a good gap-fill like you need.

It may well be a reasonable product/idea notwithstanding the following... Anything flamey I own that gets hot enough is currently in France and I'm a really picky bugger so won't buy a cheapy torch to 'just use for now'. :? I've totally had it with cheap tools and equipment and have no trust any more.
