Always defied me, why Yam didn't just do that, rather than build the Diversion. Did the XJ/FZ work well?

I've just had a new house built this year and now in the process of clearing lots of junk and old shite out of the old cottage and finding a few old photos in the process

How about this for SHITE

This pic was taken in July 1993 according to the back of the photo.

My younger brother sitting in the car not looking too impressed at all really!

It did work well, but I never got the jetting absolutely 100% as I had to use the XJ550 carbs.

I was a poor student at the time, so didn't have any spare cash to shell out for a set of FZ600 carbs

It was really funny when I took the bike for it's MOT and the tester said "there's something about this bike that isn't quite right but I can't put my finger on it...."

Who was I to put him out of his misery?

I saw one of those AE86 Corollas the other day, aren't they the ones that are worth about a million quid now due to being OMGRWDOJCYKTDRFTETC?

Yeah they are very sought after nowadays and seem to go for silly money.

Thing is even back in the 1990's they were very popular too and it was only once you owned one you realised what the demand for them was like - I had loads of people continually asking me to sell it!

It eventually went on its merry way to the ROI like the rest of them...

Quite! It probly came to him in a flash, hours after you'd left...

It's a shame about the AE86 situation: they should give out prescriptions for a couple of hours thrashing one around a track, on the NHS.

Ex-Formula Ford racer Jason Pollock of this parish (ie near where I live, not AS) has a white AE86, mint on 2 piece minilites, tuned to the nuts and known as the "Jap superleggera" as it's lightened too. A glorious thing indeed. I had the contemporaneous FWD GT for a while - it was no slouch either.

Funny thing was that I also wanted the AE82 and not the AE86... but every AE82 that I went to look at had been ragged and shagged by a collection of nitwits before I got a chance to buy one.

Thing was, they still seemed to sell no matter how buggered up they were

I stumbled upon my AE86 in the Edinburgh - Herald & Post with a fairly non-descript advert but thought I'd have a look on the off-chance it was a GT.

Admittedly, I was very disappointed to note it was the RWD version but it was in completely (unbuggered) standard condition with full service history from Toyota

The "mature" 35 year old owner was selling due to getting a company car - job done - then I had my eyes opened about the "cult following of the AE86" which I didn't know existed until that point in time...
